Trans 2010-07-26: LOST Podcasting Panel at Comic-Con

  Play

For the third year in a row, we joined Jay & Jack on their “LOST Podcasting” panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. Over 100 people filled the Santa Rosa Room at the Marriott to talk about the end of “LOST,” and its possible future.

The audio is a bit rough, and some questions were completely inaudible, so I’ve edited them out. Still, you should be able to follow the free-wheeling, fun conversation.

We had a blast at Comic-Con, and will definitely be returning next year! Hope to see you there!

  1. Mattfromnd says:

Awesome. My 2 favorite podcasting pairs together on one podcast. Wish I could have been there.

  2. Genevieve says:

It was fun to listen to this again, even though I was there. Even better, it was great to meet you all!!

  3. chris in seattle says:

This was such a nice little treat to start off THE END of the Transmission with. Though its reminded me how much I missed hearing Ryan & Jen!

I didn’t know Ryan was holding out so much on us! (But it was for our own good.)

Sounds like the epilog is getting built up to be something BIG…wonder if it’s worth a podcast? 😉

  4. Melissa in Cleveland says:

Made me feel like I was there (almost). Sounds like and awesome time. Thanks for recording and sharing.

    Melissa

  5. Bonita in Atlanta says:

much better sound quality this year. I’m so glad you got to go.

When is Transmissions “The End” coming?

  6. Tom says:

If anyone is interested in a Lost re-watch, the guys over at The 2Bit Podcasters, are doing a total 6 season recap starting in September.

  7. greenberry says:

That was SO FUN! Thank-you for that. I like the idea expressed that we all get to interpret the show with our own shade of thinking. Sooo…. they were never IN L.A.?? Hmmm…. I’ll think about that when I get to that portion of my rewatch.

Can’t wait to rewatch “The End” and to hear your final podcast wrapping up the series.

    Cheryl in Delta, B.C.

  8. Will says:

    Great listen!

On the Michael/Ben/Stuck topic I think what separated Michaels actions from Ben’s actions are that somehow Ben did a lot in his time with Hurley that truly redeemed him. Michael did save some lives staying behind on the freighter but that was one action. We don’t know just how much Ben does as #2 but I like to think it was n

  9. chris in seattle says:

I’d have to rewatch to be sure on this theory, but perhaps its michael’s guilt over the libby & anna lucia incident that has him stuck. its not that he CAN’T move on by some greater force, but rather its his own internal strife that he can’t let go of. Thus he’s still there.

With Ben, well, he’s done so much to so many, and all with a purpose that he may feel saddened, but he did ‘what needed to be done’ for the cause. Whether thats true or not doesn’t really matter because I would imagine that is what Ben believes. And thus he’s not stuck.

Or so a theory might go…

  10. Russell in Raleigh says:

Not to de-deify the writers but it seems blatantly obvious to me that the difference between Ben and Michael is that Ben was a more popular character and the writers needed a foil to answer the whispers mystery.

  11. stevehops says:

Still wondering how Frank Duckett (the guy Sawyer killed in Australia) is trapped on the Island as his whispers are heard a few times.

  12. chris in seattle says:

@ russell-actually i agree entirely. practically they needed an actor to anchor that point, michael’s character lost. (no pun intended there…)

  13. Paulobie says:

The Ben/Michael thing: I assumed that Ben didn’t turn into a whisperer because he became an instrument of the island after he was “changed” when he was taken into the temple after he was shot. In his heart he believed his evil deeds were what the island wanted, even though smoky and not Jacob might have actually been whispering in his ear at times.

  14. Paulobie says:

On the purgatory/Michael thing. In the Catholic context, purgatory isn’t forever. It’s a major time out before you are awarded a get out of jail card. Your loved ones can even pray for you to help shave off time. So Michael just has to be patient.

  15. Bonita in Atlanta says:

Wouldn’t that be great if Hugo finds a way to release all the ‘whisperers’? (during his tenure as Protector)

  16. Eileen from New Jersey says:

Where and when is the entire series podcast? I hope, hope, hope tomorrow morning!

  17. chris in seattle says:

    Hey Ryan & Jen-
It soooo close to the release of the season 6 dvd I kind of hope you either:

    a) wait and include that footage/info/epilog in the discussion.

    or

    b) do your wrap podcast & come back for a DVD extras podcast.

Just my wishes…can’t wait to hear regardless.

  18. Ryan says:

It looks like, at best, our last podcast will be even later, and incorporate some DVD discussion. It means a lot that anyone’s still waiting and checking in, considering how long the wait has been. Life has been busy, but it’s always busy… I just think we can’t bring ourselves to close the book for good.

  19. chris in seattle says:

    Amen & ditto Ryan.

Its going to feel like going into that church at THE END when The Transmission returns. Lovely but sad.

Hope everyone in the northern hemisphere is enjoying the summer months!

  20. greenberry says:

@ chris in seattle ~ are you sharing our current (Vancouver, B.C.) heatwave?

I am here for whenever and whatever comes our way as to your last podcast, Ryan and Jen. It’s all been marvelous. I’m glad we have a Facebook page now… just wish more Transmission folks participated in the numerous there.

    smile and hug,
    cheryl

  21. greenberry says:

meant to read (above): numerous… DISCUSSION threads …there

  22. Eileen from New Jersey says:

I haven’t touched my facebook page in years, but I’ll take one for the team…I am having Lost withdrawal, and miss my Sunday morning fix.
I’ll try to get on this week (don’t even remember my password)
    “See” you soon!

  23. Eileen from New Jersey says:

okay I’m back on Facebook. How to reach the page/discussions you all have been having? Please help.

  24. greenberry says:

@ Eileen ~~ First type in Transmission and click “like” ~~ that will get you on the Transmission page permanently (as a “friend”) ~~ then at the top of the page you will notice several tabs, one of them being DISCUSSIONS ~~ if you click on that tab, you will see several discussions in progress that you may participate in ~~ hope to see you there!!

  25. Eileen from New Jersey says:

@greenberry is this the link? http://www.facebook.com/LOST?ref=search#!/LOST?v=app_2373072738&ref=search
And how will I know I’ve reached the right page?

  26. Ryan says:

We’ve set up a simple link to find us on Facebook:

    http://www.facebook.com/lostcast

    See you there!

  27. Eileen from New Jersey says:

    Ryan,
Thank you! On first look, I’m overwhelmed with content. A Lost feast!

  28. John in SJ says:

When is the Lost recap podcast going to be posted??? I can’t wait any longer for it.

  29. chris in seattle says:

@ greenberry- the heat was impressive! i had to be outside as much as possible, and sadly away from the computer & the Transmission. now back to the gray & cool weather thats normally around.

curious if people are into the dvd extras/epilog for season 6?

i know i made a grand statement that what matters is what we saw broadcast…but i am relenting a little. i guess anything new that comes via Lost is going to be pretty good. seeing some previews & images have me very curious.

  30. greenberry says:

Hi Chris ~~ over on Facebook, a few of us Transmission friends are deep in a discussion about what to buy and where to buy it when it comes to watching S6 and any extras provided ~~ You (or any other Lost lovers) can find us over there!!
