A couple of thoughts:
Yunjin Kim did an amazing job in this episode. Beautifully acted, very well done.
Is this the first time we see Jin speak English (even if it’s only one word)?
This is the episode where the character of Jin starts turning from the overbearing, controlling husband into the caring, loving husband we see in Season 4. Daniel Dae Kim also does an amazing job in this episode. Again — beautifully acted.
One last note (not related to this episode): Can you believe the Michael Emerson did not win an Emmy for playing Ben? I can’t believe it! He’s the BEST VILLIAN EVER!!!!
I’m really enjoying going through these episodes with you guys. Talk to you soon.
Best Regards,
Mike
Sorry for the typo above. The sentence should have read:
One last note (not related to this episode): Can you believe that Michael Emerson did not win an Emmy for playing Ben? I can’t believe it! He’s the BEST VILLIAN EVER!!!!
This episode might have one of the funniest endings to a Lost episode. “You guys got any milk?”
On a more serious note, this episode provided a valuable clue in the form of Sun’s pregnancy test. Given what we know about Widmore now, it makes perfect sense that his company would be producing pregnancy tests. This is only the second time Widmore is mentioned and it’s great to see that they knew his connections to the island this early in his character’s history.
I enjoyed this episode very much. I like it for two reasons: 1) It’s a Sun centric episode (she’s one of my favorite characters) and 2) you finally know that at the end of the episode Henry aka Ben, is one of the Others. Ryan and Jen you are not alone, Ana-lucia was one of my favorite characters as well. I was sad to see her go 🙁 Maybe she’ll pop up in a flashback. Can’t wait for your next podcast. have a good one!
Hi guys,
Just watched episode 16 and two lines really stand out.
“A baby will change everything”
and
“A baby will make things better”
There are both delivered by Jin, during the first flash back, and apparently reffer to a child Jin would like. However, considering the way Jin delivers the lines, and with what we know now, I wonder if this is actually a disguised refference to another baby: Arron.
Just a thought.
Sorry, that last line was meant to say:
“However, considering the way Jin delivers the lines, and with what we know now, I wonder if this is actually a disguised refference by the writers to another baby: Arron”
I thought that this was a bit of a filler but it is fun to revisit these episodes. My favorite line in this episode was Anna Lucia saying “at least we know we are on the right island” which of course was before we found out there were actually two islands. Other than that, not much happening.
i think it’s interesting that michael did not appear in this episode
Best line is last “Got any milk?” from Henry/Ben. Great. This epi is really plays on everyone inability to tell the truth, hear the truth, see the truth. I think I remember being fairly sure that Ben was other than what he seemed by the end of this episode with he’s suggestion of ‘trap’ and the raining falling on Sayid group. That was always an indication of something bad about to happen, or presence of Others. The Sun/Jin flashback and island drama is all about deceit/lies/cheating. Even at the suggestion of Jack to ‘tell Jin everything” Sun still continues to lie. Loved the Hurley Sun meeting in the jungle, “I just found it (apollo bar) lying on the ground. And it not even melted.” While Sun hides the pregnancy test behind her back (all smiles). Very funny. Also, I did not catch the Widmore Laboratories on the preg. test on the original air date. A bit lost on the scenes with Bernard and Rose about her birthday and the clamming for pearls. Maybe someone can make a connection for me.
Sawyer is at his best in Season 1 & 2 and he may be headed to the top of my character favorites. Great lines, great delivery.
Also, the cinematography in Season 2 has still got that creepy dark style that I love. Really keeps the tension of the island. I think some of that is being lost (pun) in current ‘reality’ based Season 4.
Enjoying the podcast especially the Forward Cabin (sorry Jen).
Hi Guys, I wish you guys did a podcast every week! I’m missing it, two weeks out and its killing me. Hope to hear soon.
