Trans 2008-02-04: “The Beginning of the End” - Episode 4-01
| Play |
This episode of “The Transmission” follows the Jan. 31 episode, “The Beginning of the End,” the Season 4 premiere of “LOST.” Since we obviously can’t stop thinking and talking about “LOST,” Jen suggested we give podcasting another shot. But for better or worse, we’ve thrown the script out the window. Obviously we’re a bit rusty, but we still had fun, and hopefully you will too. Is this a leaner, meaner “Transmission”? Is this a one-off fluke? Is this a horrible mistake? Only time will tell. For the precious few that are still subscribed, enjoy!

Hey guys! I’m so excited that you’re giving it another shot! I can’t wait to get home and download this one!
Like Ivan said, though, please continue blogging, too. I bet it’ll place less stress on you guys come podcast time.
Once again, it’s great to have you back! I hope you keep it up!
February 5th, 2008 at 6:08 am
Way to go guys! I’m glad I stayed subscribed to the feed!
February 5th, 2008 at 6:20 am
Wow, you guys just made my day.
February 5th, 2008 at 7:45 am
So glad you’re giving it another try! You have been sorely missed by this long-time (non-subscribing, by the way) listener/reader: I’ve checked the site after each Lost episode and periodically throughout this last long hiatus (HawaiiUp, too — have been hoping you’ve just been too busy for podcasting withing nothing new showing up there for so long…). The Transmission was the first podcast I ever heard and set a pretty high bar in terms of quality of content; I truly appreciate your thoughtful and well-spoken commentaries and insights, and will be keeping my fingers crossed that you decide to continue.
February 5th, 2008 at 8:46 am
Awesome comeback show! So glad to hear you guys again! Man, I feel like we have so much to catch-up with…. You guys were the first Lost Podcast I listened to, and in my opinion, the best and still the best. Lost just wasn’t the same without you two!
February 5th, 2008 at 9:32 am
Maybe it’s just me, but I subscribed to the enhanced podcast, and the last podcast on there for me (in itunes) is your aloha. I will keep checking.
but I am oh so excited. It’s almost as exciting as Lost coming back on the air!
February 5th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Ryan and Jen! Yeah. So glad you’re back on the “air.” Keep it coming. Great work as usual.
February 5th, 2008 at 10:35 am
So when should we expect the next HawaiiUP show?
February 5th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
I cannot believe how happy I am that you guys are back. Please don’t leave us again. You are an integral part of my LOST experience. Everything is right in the world again.
February 5th, 2008 at 2:14 pm

February 5th, 2008 at 4:31 pm

February 5th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Hey there! Just wanted to say, really liked the Podcast. Great insight into what can be a brain hurting experience sometimes, speaking as someone who is not terribly great at my own analysis of each episode. Hope you continue. Once again way to go!
February 5th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
What a great surprise! Welcome Back!
February 5th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
Holy cow! Welcome back, Ryan & Jen!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a new podcast downloading from you two..I’m still not sure that I do, but I’m willing to work with the delusion
Just don’t leave again. The Lost podcasting world just hasn’t been the same without you. I can’t wait to hear your comments again
February 5th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
you two do good work for the Jay and Jack podcast and have pretty good comments. the only problem i have is that is it REALLY being nit picky to question some of the motives on this shows writing? everyones watching to have fun, thats great, but theres such a polarization between the writers being very calculated (and ultra-sensitive to symbolism) and very absurd at the same time. genius to throw in little easter eggs… childish to throw the events of Naomi’s Jason Voorhee’s moment and Kate’s kleptomania to steal the phone to give the episode some “beef” while everyone treks off to a new meeting point… and where did everyone go at the end anyhow? they wasted all that time traveling to meet up at part of the plane and then suddenly disappear anyway.
the motives on this show seem excessively bizarre and irrational so the show slows down.
playing dumb is fine to enjoy the show but i wouldnt say these people are that smart or genius at making believable motives.
February 5th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
oh yeah, they walked to the tower… to the plane… just so they could split up and go back to the beach… and the barracks.

February 6th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Welcome back Ryan and Jen. Your return is a great moment in podcasting history!
February 6th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Oh, and I have a theory.
If Kate is one of the O6, does that mean she’s been pardoned?
I think Kate and Sawyer both have been saved, but are NOT part of the O6. Both of them don’t really want to go public, so I think they decided not to divulge their return.
I say Sawyer, because she mentions a “he” to Jack in Through the Looking Glass.
February 6th, 2008 at 12:08 pm

This is sooooooooooo good. I messed you guys Really.
Never say never!

You were the first podcast I heard way back when and it was you guys that helped me see the deeper levels of Lost.I always check for your blog after each show and was really happy to see my I tunes loading up a fresh episode. The other podcasts are great but to me your the best. Thanks!
February 7th, 2008 at 2:48 am
I haven’t checked out your site for ages but as soon as the new episode was out i thought i would check your website… and low and behold you guys are back podcasting. Fantastic to hear your thoughts on the airwaves again… my Lost experience is so much better for it!
February 7th, 2008 at 10:45 am
Welcome back to podcast-land! Like others have mentioned, you were my first podcast, too. Your production quality was great and suffered nothing by being “off the cuff”. It’s good to be spontaneous!
February 7th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Count me among the many who are just thrilled to see you guys back in podcast mode! The Transmission was my first positive podcast experience, too, and opened my eyes and ears to what ordinary people could do with this new medium. (Not that you guys are ordinary! You know what I mean!) Welcome back.
February 8th, 2008 at 3:29 am
Welcome Back!!! Please stay on board guys, I’ve missed you so much. I’ll take a 5 minute podcast from you all rather than none at all. You guys are the original and best podcast!!!
February 8th, 2008 at 4:22 am
Good work Ryan and Jen, it’s great to have you back!
February 8th, 2008 at 7:11 am
Wow! I haven’t even listened to it yet, but I am excited. I’ve stayed subscribed all this time because of my love of your podcast and the hopes that someday you would return.
Welcome back!
February 8th, 2008 at 10:04 am
I’m so happy you guys are podcasting again, and you are definitely not a washed-up 80’s band!
I enjoyed it immensely and am looking forward to the next one! Thanks for all the entertainment and information!
February 8th, 2008 at 10:27 am
For me, your podcast was always a necessary companion to the show. Listening to your viewpoints and summaries of clues and things I might have missed was just as important to me as actually watching each episode. I have never been very inclined to scour all the message boards and search through pages and pages of opinionated and argumentative posts to find the jewels that are the easter eggs that I had missed while watching and so eagerly craved. Your podcast so perfectly combined all of the elements that I wanted to know.
When you stopped The Transmission, I tried listening to other podcasts. They were just as informative, just as intelligent and covered just as much as yours did. But something was missing. To this day, I cannot put my finger on just what you had provided that they lacked. But I couldn’t get into the others and stopped listening. Although I loved Lost as much as ever, there was something major missing from my experience. It was your podcast. I still read your blog after each episode and that cushioned the blow of not being able to get my Transmission fix.
But now The Transmission has returned!! I was so excited, I listened to it right away. Once your episode had finished, I once again found what had been missing from my Lost Experience and now it all feels complete again.
Thank you for bringing that back.
February 8th, 2008 at 11:49 am
I’m so happy I stayed subscribed. Made my day when you appeared like magic on my ipod.
Many have tried to fill your shoes but you were the original and still the best.
February 8th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Ryan and Jen - I was thrilled when I stumbled on your podcast redux. Turns out you two are just as wonderful as always, scripted or no. I’ve listened regularly to LostCasts and Jay and Jack since you stopped the Transmission back in ‘06. Both of those ‘casts are very good, but to me the Transmission has the most Losty goodness per second of “air” time. Simply put, your podcast is the best, in my opinion.
Aside from your incisive “Lost” commentary, I especially love that you’re kama’aina ‘casting from Oahu. I lived in Honolulu for 10 years and miss it terribly after moving away not long ago. You guys - just your voices alone - bring it all back.
Thank you so much for your time and energy devoted to Lost. Please keep up with The Transmission if you possibly can…..
February 8th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Good to hear your podcast again! You guys did great and I can’t wait to hear the next one for “Confirmed Dead”.
February 9th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Thanks so much for coming back I loved your podcast and was so sad to see it go, but much happier to have you back. thanks so much for your effort on this great podcast.

February 9th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
OMG!!! Ryan and Jen I have been a listener since the pilot podcast of the Transmission and I am so so so happy to hear you guys are back in business!!! Can’t wait to download and listen!
February 10th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Wow. You two deserve to be on the top of the Lost Podcast world. Despite the long hiatus, I think it’s great you guys are willing to give it another shot. If there are 53 comments here after two years of not podding, then you know you still have a solid fan base. Keep up the fantastic work.
February 15th, 2008 at 8:04 am
hi ryan and jen
i was so bummed when you guys had to stop. i tried listening to other lost podcast but nothing filled the lost transmission void. seriously, i would’ve paid to listen to you guys. that’s saying a lot since i’m a cheap bastard. i’m so so glad you guys are back podcasting. i can’t tell you enough how much i love this show. this has made my day!
