  1. Wow. What an episode. Even tho I was anticipating much of the main things that happened (durn spoilers..), it still had me on the edge of my seat. Next up: the other 48 days!

  2. Jody says:

I just wanted to say thank you so much. I mist the show last night and went on the web to see if I could find out anything and I came across your web site, and was able to listen to your broadcast of the overview of the show last night. So awesome. Thanks again, I really enjoyed listening to you both. I’ll be back next week for sure.

  3. Ryan says:

Can’t wait for next week’s, Justin. I mentioned it on our show, but I think “The Other 48 Days” will be absent any link to the present on the island. It’ll be a heck of a ride, and then, the following episode will probably be the one that picks up at the scene of Shannon’s death.

You may also notice I switched from saying Ana Lucia killed Shannon to “we see her with the gun,” because as we talked, I began to think it was too obvious how we were not shown the trigger being pulled… that the gun goes off, unseen, between the Fusies and Talies. We may not know who the killer is, after all.

Jody, glad the recaps helped you! Some folks love ’em, others think they’re awfully redundant for an episode most folks just saw. But we get enough feedback from folks who miss the show or parts of it to keep it. Thanks for listening!

By the way, I know now that Sawyer called Ana-Lucia “Ponce de Leon,” not “de Soto” (thanks, Scott!). Both still historic explorers, though!

  4. Rhonda says:

The podcast is great! Thank you for all of your hard work.

Just an observation from the last show: In the scene where Claire shows Locke the baby is still sleeping, and later Charlie stumbles upon both Locke and Claire, Locke is examining something before Claire approaches him, right in the beginning of the scene. The object almost looks like a thick piece of frosted glass, and I’m curious if anyone else caught this, and what its significance may be. Locke is quick to place the object in his backpack prior to Claire seeing it. What is Locke hiding, and is it of any meaning?

Again, love the Podcast and look forward to it every week. Thanks again.

  5. Brooke says:

    Ryan and Jen –
LOVE the show!! thanks so much – you guys have a REALLY good podcast. trust me I’ve listened to a lot of stinkers and you guys do an amazing job. keep up the great work.

I was thinking about the fact that they are going to start from the beginning with the “tailees” – do you think they’ll do it in just one episode? I was thinking they were doing so to delve into the “others” and to introduce the tailees further and my suspicion is that it will take longer than one episode. it would also be a way to fill this season.
I was wondering what you thought of that.

    Brooke

  6. Bill says:

I couldn’t help but notice in Abandoned that the gunshot which apprently killed Shannon took place off screen. Of course, we are supposed to think that Ana-Lucia shot her, especially since she was holding the proverbial smoking gun.

My guess is that someone or something else got Shannon and Ana Lucia shot at it.

Also, I know others have this same theory, but I can’t help but think that the clinical psychologist is the tailies Ethan. (Where is that manifest?)

Good luck with the show from NJ!

  7. Walter says:

Just listened to the new podcast… love it! I think you misspoke about the nickname Sawyer gave to Ana-Lucia. I forget which one you said, but I remember that he called her Ponce de Leon (another early Spanish explorer like Cortez). What was Ponce de Leon looking for in his explorations? The Fountain of Youth!

  8. Bill Branch says:

Love your podcast. Keep up the great work.
Sorry — but I believe in Instant Gratification, so please continue the podcast the day after LOST. Unless you want to do a short podcast the day after with initial reaction — and a longer one a few days later! Just an idea.
    Take care!

  9. Matt from Canada says:

HELP…the last 2 Podcasts can not be read my MP3 player anymore? I think that it is because you added “Audible Support” to the MP3 file. I updated my SanDisk SDMX1 – 256R with the latest firmware that included “Audible Support” to no avail. Has anyone else had this issue?

Ryan and Jen, I noticed a few Podcasts ago (2005-10-26: “LOST Seminar”) you stated that you were going to experiment with enhanced Podcasts but would still offer the regular ones. Where do I get the regular ones? I tried my iTunes feed and downloading directly off your website.. both are unreadable on my MP3 player.

Please help someone…I need my ”The Transmission” fix before I get the jitters 🙂

  10. Ryan says:

Matt, if you’ve been on the main feed from the beginning, you’ve only gotten our “original flavor,” basic MP3 shows. The feed to get the enhanced podcasts is on a separate page, and further, the files are AAC, not MP3. As far as I know, I haven’t made any technical changes to our MP3s that could explain your problems.

Have you tried playing the MP3s on your PC or other devices? If it works on other machines, it might be something that broke with your SanDisk firmware upgrade. (Audible isn’t podcasting, it’s a proprietary format.) Basically, I haven’t had any other reports about problems with our files… just our speaking ability!

  11. Conor says:

Hey, love the show! Anyway, I don’t know if this was obvious or not, but at the beginning of the episode when Shannon is just arriving at the hospital, she’s confronted by the doctor right away. If you notice, for a split second, a younger Jack passes by him in the background. Yet another reason I love this show. So much to look out for. Keep up the amazing job, guys! Aloha.

  12. Annie says:

Why is this podcast not up on itunes? This is my favorite lost podcast and I love the enhanced version but the last episode you have up is the favorite characters. Is it coming up or is it just on the website? Also is the enhanced version available on the website because I love how you can go through the chapters.

  13. sam sugarman says:

hey, my name is Sam from Oakland California, and I just wanted to tell you that this show is not only watched by adults, but kids as well. I’m a 14 year old Freshamn in high school, I’v been watching the show since day one,and I’v become induldged in it. I have tried to get some of my friends to watch it, but none of them have got into it. So, just writting to tell you that there are some of us kids out here who LOVE LOST!! I also have to say that your Podcast is great, and I hope that you guys keep going for a long, long time.

    Your fan,
    14 year old Sam Sugarman

  14. Bryan says:

Love the Podcast. Love the show. I wanted to comment on what Conor said a few messages ago. If he did indeed see a younger Jack at the Hospital where Shannon is, then would it not be possible that Shannon’s father was the other man involved in the wreck with Jack’s future wife?
It wouldn’t be surprising since there is such an emphasis on subtle ties between the characters.

  15. Troy Arnote says:

Your new format on this web page SUCKS! What ever happened to the little chart on top of the page, where you picked which podcast you want to hear and just cick and play it? I can’t even get your new page to work! AT ALL!!!! Sooooo….looks like Im all done with your page. I don’t own an Ipod and the computer is the only way I could hear your show, instead of just keeping it simple, you had to go and screw it all up. THANKS!

  16. Avery says:

    Ryan & Jen,
I took your advice and listened to several other podcasts regarding lost…and there is just NO comparision! The others were chessy and corny with a lot of wasted airtime. I like how you guys delve right into the show. Plus your voices are great for radio! Very relaxing….keep up the great work. The Tranmission is by far the best!

  17. Ryan says:

Sorry, Troy. We briefly took the streaming player off our site because the bandwidth use had prompted our webhost to send us a nasty letter. I had to research a player option that could stream our files from our remote media host, which fortunately I found.

While the player with the fancy menu isn’t available any more, there is now a “Listen Now” button for individual shows. I hope you’ll find it to your liking.

Meanwhile, even without the live stream, links have always been available to download the MP3 like any other file — no iPod at all required.

  18. Nay says:

Anyone spotted this on the Oceanic Air website yet? i found it hidden along with a picture of claire’s boarding pass…

If anyone should find this message, please get word I’m alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they’re getting worse…

    Sally

I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.

  19. Quispus says:

Great news for those listening to your enhanced Podcast on other devices other than the iPod. The newest version of TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player) now has png support, so now I can see the images that go along with the audio.

  20. Justin from Ohio says:

Just wanted to reply to Conor and Bryan about the whole hospital scene. Yes Shannon’s father was the one involved in the wreck with Jack’s future wife. Yet ANOTHER tie the lostaways have with each other, even though Shannon really isn’t a part of them anymore. Isn’t it amazing how this show seems to evolve and change with each episode? Excellent writers.

  21. hollywood says:

hey guys, that link for the official lost podcast is wrong. should be: http://lost.abc.com/

  22. fred says:

    Aloha from south of France!

just listened to your really great podcast and caught up with the Peter Pan / Lost / Disney theory. Definitely I see references to Peter Pan in many places in show.

Look at the Peter Pan cartoon main picture, here as example: http://disney.jbug.net/Gallery/c14/p3.jpg
Is there something catching your eye in it? Yes the teddy bear!

And Locke is Peter Pan, he lost the ability to walk/fly and now back in the island he can walk/fly again…

Don’t know where this would lead us… but anyway it is fun to build theory out of almost nothing 🙂

    au revoir!
    -fred

  23. Katie says:

Some people have been speculating (at the Fuselage and other places) that Ana Lucia didn’t kill Shannon…some people have gone as far as saying that Shannon didn’t even get shot (some people say that it looks more like a stab wound)!

Check out some of these links for more info on the debate:

    http://www.livejournal.com/community/lost_tv/1069110.html#cutid1

Also, I’m pretty sure that the Drive Shaft band website is a fan made creation…

Hey, Ryan and Jen…do either of you have Fuselage usernames?

    Thanks for the great show!

  24. MiKhail says:

All of you said that Shannon died! But i think that Shannon is alive!
Because before her “death” we saw another part of history of her life,& the is no end in this part ! I think that Sayid would save her!
& In next episode we will see the ending of Shanno’s history.

  25. Chris says:

    Great Podcast!
I also wanted to point out the younger Jack in the hospital scene at the beginning (Conor had originally pointed this out). Walter also made a good point about the spanish explorer looking for the fountain of youth.

I wanted to point out an actual error within season one. I heard that everything within the episode is put there on purpose, but this is to show a simple slip up within the filming of Lost. It’s just a simple mishap with some of the extras on the set, but it is located on episode 5 @ 10min:30sec. It’s very easy to see.

  26. devonk says:

    Another great Transmission.

I wouldn’t mind if each new Transmission came a few days after each LOST episode. There are so many details to each epi, I’d think it would be better to take a few days to digest, see what others are talking about, etc.

So many different storylines going on. Even the older ones (Why did Locke lose use of his legs before Boone died; How/why did Claire scratch Danielle’s arm; etc.)

I’ll miss Shannon if she’s really dead. The first episodes were great with her tanning on the beach while everyone else was struggling with the wreckage. Funny.

  27. richal257 says:

I wouldn’t mind if Shannon died. She is possibly the most wooden actor in the cast. I keep thinking back to the episode where Boone died and her horribly acted reactions of grief/sadness/anger… whatever. I do have a naive hope that Boone will resurface somehow.

  28. Carla says:

The second *official* podcast is up at ABC’s “L O S T” site, and Cuse & Lindelof are talking about Shannon’s death when they say ‘…her (Shannon’s) death would happen at the hands of Ana-Lucia’.

LOL, I guess some of us must be a little TOO imaginative for our own good. Dang, I was certain that those were two separate events we were witnessing at the end of “Abandoned”! 😉

  29. Jen says:

There are a few more comments from the writing team on spoilerfix about the whole controversy about this episode.

  30. Jessie P. says:

This podcast is great! I’m fairly new to Lost but caught all of the repeats of last season and an avid watcher of this season. (ARGH I missed last week’s) I’m no expert on all the details and clues like you guys but I’m working on a Unified Theory of Lost.

OK bear with me ( and forgive me if this sounds totally dumb): Perhaps the Dharma experiment is an electromagnetic devise (in the Hatch) that manipulates the brainwaves (again, bear with me) of the unwitting Lost subjects such that their deepest desires and/or fears are manifested in the island which acts as an isolated lab. OK so, all these detailed theories about Peter Pan, etc… are naturally going to play themselves out since their part of our culture’s collective unconcious. Right. Sooo the Others are Dharma experimenters who swoop in to maintain the integrity of experiment. Children have really wild imaginations so they’ve got to be taken away by the “Others” so that they don’t screw up the experiment. Maybe Walt is alive, with the Others, and is projecting warnings etc.. to his castmates. He speaks backward b/c it’s a sort of mirror image. Or something.

Not sure how the overlapping backstories quite fit. But perhaps it’s part of the grand experiment. They were all chosen specifically because they are all connected.

  31. Bryan says:

I was rewatching Man of Science/Man of Faith again today and a quick numerology note is that the man driving the other car (Shannon’s father?) that hit Jack’s future wife dies and the doctor announces the time of death as 8:15 AM.

  32. adrullager says:

did everyone see the dharma logo on the sharks tail in the secound episode just making sure.

if not look fopr it. not the dorsel fin but look at the tail when it goes past screen when sawyer gives michael the gun. and swims for the other part of the boat.

  33. adrullager says:

this podcast is isnt that good all i can ever read is how good everyone thinks it is
