HiUP #37 – Dedicated

A long weekend affords another chance to get in front of the mic. Lots of local news to cover, from Michelle Wie to surfing in schools. What percentage of people living in Hawaii do you think were born here? The number certainly surprised me. Two acoustic soloists are behind the music, one a student at my alma mater and the other an Aiea girl whose away for college. Jen joins us to follow-up on some movie talk from last year, now that we’ve finished all three of the “Trois Couleurs” films. The future of HawaiiUP is up to you — let me know what you’d like to hear! Thanks for listening, and have a great weekend.

Love your show! Please continue. Would love to hear food news. Here in Texas–I miss manapua, mochi, saimin, shave ice (real shave ice), fresh mango, homemade guava jelly, Guri Guri, oh the list could go on and on.

I really enjoy all of your show. Only complaint–You folks don’t live on Maui! 🙂 That’s where I spent my childhood summers–my grandparents live there. I’ve only been to Oahu twice.

Anyways, thank you for bringing the islands here to Texas. I really appreciate and look forward to your show.

Okay, the trilogy is now in my que. I figured you guys weren’t wrong about LOST. I bought the DVD set having never seen the show on television. I loved every minute of it. Great job!

  3. Lee says:

    Ryan,

Thanks for the shout out! Great show. I especially like the artist in S. Cal. She has a great voice.

    Still listening in the ATL!

    Lee

    Hi Ryan,
I love both of your shows. I found the Transmission (RIP) first, but then discovered that HawaiiUp was equally enjoyable in its own way. I hope that you will be able to continue periodic podcasts of one sort or another. My in-laws live in Hilo, and we make the trip out there about once a year. I enjoy hearing your take on Hawaiian life and politics, along with a tune or two.

    Aloha from Ithaca, New York!

    Paul

  5. Rachel says:

Please tell me this show will not be cancelled, like the transmission! This is my 2nd favorite podcast!!!!! (after the transmission)

  6. Stacey says:

Keep up the good work. I’ve been listening to you since August 2005, and my husband has been listening to the Transmission since it began. Please keep podcasting! Love to hear the island updates and food news. Because of your show, I became a Hawaii Diner listener too.

  7. Wailana says:

Just wanted to agree with the other comments here and let you know that I love this podcast. I actually found HawaiiUp first which led me to the Transmission. It’s great to hear about the islands and it is the only source of hawaii news that I get out here in Utah 🙂 Please keep it up.
    Mahalo,

    Hey Ryan and Jen!

Just a note to let you guys know how much I have enjoyed your shows. I used to listen to the transmission, and since that ended have started downloading the HawaiiUp podcasts, which I am enjoying even more. Love the music and the culture – be encouraged, you guys make a splash with your shows . . . Thanks for all you do!

I’ve been a fan since my boyfrined got onto the podcasts. We are avid listeners of the Hawaii podcasters, especially since we live in Tokyo but were brought up in Hawaii. We hope to hear another podcast from you soon!!
