A Hilo Story
Friday, April 29th, 2005April 29. Hilo’s Farmer’s Market gets underway on Kamehameha by 6am Saturdays and Wednesdays–closing down around 1 or 2pm. Wayne Subica’s Plantation Museum is on Keawe Street. The Kula Kava Bar nearby looks like fun. On Kamehameha Avenue, Sig Zane’s clothing shop is a landmark, and he’s got some things that might work for Honolulu business day attire. I had to break down and buy at his sister’s shop down the street, Hana Hou: a hand blocked fitted off the shoulder thing from Rarotonga. A little further on, Honoli’i Surf Co. has some stylin’ surf wear you won’t see anywhere else. Check out the Big Island Ginger Ale at Island Naturals Market, they have a good hot deli, too, near Borders in the Waiakea Shopping Center.
