Viva la Transmission!

@ Rich – I have a PC and had to right click on the audio play from The Transmission archives and Save As into my PC then Add File on Itunes. It up or downloads as a music file instead of a podcast with Ryan & Jen as the Artists. The downside being it doesn’t really SAVE your place if you go off and do something else but if you note the minute marker you can fastforward to where you left off.

Also I had some that just wouldn’t load but only a few. Hope this helps! Nice to See you again on the Blog, come on over to Facebook and keep up with some of us Diehards over there!

I had much the same experience with the “Lost Encyclopedia” as I did with “The End.” Beautiful, but unsatisfactory in terms of the grand design. I think the prevailing opinion on the ultimate meaning of Lost has coalesced around what was immediately observable, ignoring the subtext. Some of the loose ends we labored over have been dismissed. However, Ryan pointed out in reference to Jughead that you do not introduce a gun in Act I unless you intend for it to go off in Act III. But neither do you introduce oracular warnings about the end of the world, pandemic infections, indications that the fabric of reality is coming undone etc without any proper resolution.

If I ever get the chance to buy the DVD set and watch it all within a few days time – maybe it will all fit together. Watching over a period of years you tent to forget things from year to year and genrally lose that ‘overall view and understanding’.

Thank you Ryan and Jen for all your years of work on this – gave the series an extra dimension….

Looking back on my Lost experience as a whole, you guys became as much as part of it as the show itself. You’ve got my vote for favorite characters!

I’ll stay tuned in – just in case another Transmission comes floating out from across time and space…

Awesome. Wait almost a year for it and then it doesn’t work. Excellant work Ryan and Jen.

Today is the first anniversary without “LOST” but I am still with my rewatch so I haven’t let the show go yet.

Some thoughts about what you commented:

-”The New Man in Charge”: I think its explanations were a bit for dummies, see the polar bears (really?) and the pregnant women (that made me congratulate myself because my theory was true). I’d have liked to see how Desmond went out from the Island and met Penny again.

-The Sawyer-Juliet (yeah, she was the best among the actresses, she’s simply amazing) relationship: I agree with you. It wasn’t likely to happen but they started to trust in each other and besides she was the only one who could control James!

And, oh boy, that cut you chose with the great John Locke (my favourite character) saying “don’t tell me what I can’t do, this is my destiny” is hearbreaking. And the one between Penny and Desmond… I saw the episode recently and well, seeing that I can’t still understand why there are people who say the most important thing from the show weren’t the characters but the mistery.

Thank you for this amazing podcast, I was a new listener during season six but I enjoyed a lot listening to it and besides I met great people thanks to it.

I think it is real easy for all of us to gloss over the kind of dedication and time that must have been given by Ryan and Jen in doing the Transmission podcasts. But this last one, from the comments, to the well thought out favorites, to the telephone calls and snippets of the show itself…… WOW!

All I could think of all the way through was how many hours must Ryan & Jen have given to all of us, and the LOST fan base, to make such a production.

Thank you Ryan and Jen!!! Some of the individual weekly podcasts may in time get deleted. But this last one will be archived forever and placed in with the 6 year DVD set. Or maybe the Blu-Ray set. Or possibly both!! You guys are the greatest!!!

One of the callers mentioned the moment that Jack and Sawyer shared about Christian’s message to his son as a favorite moment and I couldn’t agree more. Additionally, the moment when Miles witnessed his father truly loving him as a baby in Season 5, and when Sawyer was finally able to get some release and relief after killing the man (Locke’s birth dad) who had destroyed his family. For me, LOST was and always will be about either being able to ‘move on’ from painful ‘Father’ or childhood issues, or finding redemption, and in either case ultimately learning to be whole and connected and useful and loved.

But is says that it was cast by The Transmission on May 23 and today is only May 21. Jen, Ryan, did you transmit this on the right compass heading? The proper bearing was 325 degrees.

Do appreciate your time and effort for the Podcasts over the year, the time required to not only record, sometimes re-record and the editing on top of the normal tasks of life. It was as you see and hear from the many that listened duly noted and appreciated. But LOST is now over for a year, the last Transmission podcast has been released so I guess this is my time to ‘let go’. I’ll remove it from my iTunes library with much thanks to both of you but will check back on the blog on occasion to see what is going on. But until than – thank you both once again, all the best in your lives going forward, and Hawaii is a place my wife and I always wanted to visit, nothing planned in the short term but maybe down the road if we ever get there, we’ll have the chance to quickly meet over a drink and do some LOST talk.

So with that once again THANKS, I’m glad I hung in there for the last one – and the good news is it got out before Rapture …

If you don’t use one, then I guess that’s where you’re stuck hitting this bookmark now and then. But if you’re just frustrated and annoyed at this point, and want to give up, we won’t hold it against you. Many have. It’s just as discouraging to us to hear doubt as it is for you to not find it posted yet, but… I don’t want to be a broken record, but when we say it’s coming, we mean it. We even compiled some clips this weekend (since everyone’s been in a reminiscing mood with the one-year anniversary coming up).

In the mean time, if this has been the only place you’ve been looking, we’d strongly encourage you to join the greater “LOST” community on Twitter, Facebook, and other networks, where the conversation has never ended. Jen and I have participated in collaborations, made guest appearances on other podcasts, and (gasp!) explored other shows. It’s great stuff. And probably much more interesting than what you’d get out of a final oversized MP3, anyway.

I want to hear your final podcast, but I won’t know it’s been posted if I stop coming by the site to check. But it’s frustrating to always see “it’s coming soon”.

It’s been “coming soon” for almost a year now.

Ryan/Jen put yourself on the other side for a second. If you were the ones waiting for someone else. Wouldn’t you be annoyed constantly hearing “it’s coming soon, but we don’t know when”?

But it’s clear you’re unhappy, and I’m sorry. I don’t know how many times I can say it: stop checking, stop looking, and if you must, unsubscribe. For everyone else, we’re still around, online, talking and reminiscing, in the great world wide web beyond this blog. To be sure, if you have a question, a comment, you can reach us any number of other ways.

When we can get our final show out, we will. And if you let go, Matt, at worst, you’ll be pleasantly surprised when that happens.

I’m not trying to be negative here. I loved your podcast and was/still am looking forward to hearing from you guys again. But it’s starting to feel like we’re being strung along. Being promised things that never happen.

I would try to argue that Jacob never inhabited the cabin, a theory which has a certain elegance to it as Jacob himself said he wanted to allow the people he brought to the island to find their own destinies without his intervention. So MIB would be given free rein to impersonate Jacob and to use deception and manipulation to get the chosen to cross each other off and move more game markers into the dark column. However, the protective ring of ash and Ilana’s mission to seek him out there seem to contradict this. Yet another vexing incongruity. The only sensible explantion I can offer is that MIB could make itself manifest off of the island, in dream states and in the cloudy periphery. A wisp of smoke in the mind’s eye. I offer up Christian’s brief visit to Jack in the lobby of St. Sebastian’s which set off the smoke alarm or the disturbing apparition of Claire to Kate in the O6 days. If we can begin to accept that, then maybe the appearance of Jacob to Ilana, clad entirely in black and during a moment of great trauma, was yet another such manifestation. The instructions he gave her, much as those he gave to Ben, were only meant to further his end game and not to defend the island.

It’s no surprise that people are still finding things to talk about when it comes to “LOST.” But I am amazed that people still come by this blog, of all places. Mahalo for the comments!

On another note, my I am one who was disappointed with the way LOST was ended (my wife also). But I’m not going to try and convince anyone who liked the way LOST was ended that they shouldn’t be. Look at it this way: there are those who didn’t like the beginning of LOST and never watched the program at all or dropped out after the first episodes, but I won’t try to convince them that their opinion is wrong. Everyone has their own expectations and likes and that’s their business.

When I do think back on LOST, the whole experience was greatly improved by The Transmission. Throughout the series, I listened to quite a few different LOST podcasts, but I found none, other than Jen and Ryan’s, worth listing to. Some were DOA during the first episode I listened to, while some I tried as many as three episodes thinking they might improve.

Jen, Ryan, you two did the very best. By far!

I know it’s long overdue, but I will say that I still wish I had called in during (at least) the final season.

I still have your podcast in my subscriptions…

…and it’s probably unhealthy to anticipate anything this long, but I can’t wait.
No LOST episode was complete until i got my R&J analysis. I always went back and rewatched the episodes with new eyes, seeing the little bits I missed.

I can’t bring myself to watch the reruns, but I am looking forward to the final Transmission wrap up. Hopefully sooner than later.

Thanks for all the work you did for the LOST community for so long, and just know you were a fixture in many people’s lives for a very long time. It was like a conversation with friends & family after every episode. The Transmission will be missed.

BTW – didn’t you guys do a season 2 rewatch one summer between season 3 and 4 or 4 and 5? Can you direct me to which archive that is located in? Thanks!

And again, If I am an ABC exec and am thinking dollars like I am paid to – a 3 season commitment to ‘an ed’ would bring back each and every LOST fan – even the grumpy ones like me….

Indeed, spending several days exploring the Big Island with a fan that we first met when she was here for the “Sunset on the Beach” premiere (and who joined us on our one-time location tour) was a perfect example of how special the “LOST” fan community is.

Throwing out a date just invites more grumps to come by and laugh at us when we miss it, John, so we’ll just continue to say soon. I’ve heard nothing about a sequel, and while I might be in the minority, I’d be happy if “The End” (and not even “The New Man In Charge”) was the last chapter of “LOST.”

Also, in your circles have there been any rumors at all about a sequel – which would begin when walt gets into the bus with Hurley and Ben?

Regardless of what doubters have said, we are committed to a last show, at this point likely a year-later retrospective if anything. But it means a lot that at least a couple of you ask about it now and then!

Locke: “What did I have?”

Ben: “You were special. And I wasn’t.”

Locke: “Well, if it helps, I forgive you.”

Ben: “Thank-you, John. It does help.”

Someday there is going to be more LOST. Tron returns decades later. Star Trek took years to re-emerge. They’re even looking to Re-Boot Buffy. Whatever the form, there will be more.

Clearly there is a lot of emotion still out there about LOST. Not all of it’s good, but overall this forum has been a place for GOOD conversation. So while the ‘LAST’ podcast is off coming into being, it’s good to know that THE TRANSMISSION is still a place to come together.

I do think having some time and stepping away from the specifics of the show are a good thing. This last podcast is about ALL of Lost. Which is a huge undertaking. It’s not about any specific season or question, yet its kind of about all of them. And about what Lost MEANS. Really, that is a challenge. And maybe that’s part of what is difficult in finding a structure and form for The Transmission Podcast.

But sometimes it takes that time and space to be able to see something better. And to see it as a whole.

So I will happily keep dropping by. Because I have always found the conversation here so enlightening, interesting and just plain fun.

I am one of the ones devistated by the poor ending to (what could have been) one of the greatest television series ever. Due to the bad way it ended, and leaving so many stones unturned – it will never reach that status. Trully a shame.

I hope to God, ABC is as greedy as I think they are and they will come back with L2 – the adventures of Hurley and Ben – picking up where the last minutes in the mini-van left off. Honestly, is there anyone that would not ‘go back’ for a chance to see what happened after Jack???

Millions of disgruntled viewers will flock back to their tv screens, putting many more millions in ABC’s pockets. Its a marriage made in heaven!

I love you Ryan and Jen! Hope you find your way back to us soon. As taller ghost Walt would say, you still have work to do!

I never had particular expectations for the ending or needed ‘answers’ to any mysteries. I was sad that our Losties were all dead at the conclusion with gaping holes between when we saw them last in life, but the ending was so poignant and beautiful I came to accept it. The truth of how certain people are put in our lives to help us grow and love more fully really resonates. That is the plane upon which I embrace Lost.

Things change, sure, and life gets busy.

But the idea that there is a reunion ahead gives me hope and peace.

Sure. We don’t all have the same constant of weekly interactions we once did. But as the holidays approach I am reminded of how strong a role Lost & The Transmission had on my life. And I revel in the fact that somewhere down the line there will be at least one more chance to connect and enjoy each others company.

I have loved the ride. And it will take as long as it takes to reconnect. But that is okay in my book, because friends are always welcome.

If you, Ryan and Jen, loved this show SO much over the years why haven’t you YET put out your final thoughts? I think its just like Jeff Jensen, when it comes down to it you really don’t know what to say.

At least you are not doing a Jay and Jack and refusing to let go of your nerd quasi-celebrity by rehashing the series all over again. Ugh.

I’ve just recently started watching S1s of both Fringe & Carnivale upon recommendation from LOST fans, and I regularly learn about great music and other pertinent events or musings from this sensitive intelligent fanbase ~ you and Jen have opened up my world considerably!

@JayJay: That sounds like a challenge we might actually be able to win. Must strategize…

@MattfromND: I find it hilarious that you come by after saying you’ve moved on, merely to tell us that you find it hilarious that others haven’t. But if it makes you feel better, we’re happy to have provided some amusement.

Clearly they’ve forgotten about it and don’t care anymore.

Move on.

Acceptance, on many levels, is an ongoing personal struggle, but aging does indeed aid its embrace! Pure and healthy growth is the most beautiful thing I can think of!

And then the deep well of sadness that was tapped in him when he finally got that. Aging and death and life’s hardships will bring this realization to all of us eventually, if we live long enough. Exempted are those who continue in the words of Dylan Thomas to “rage rage against the dying of the light.” In my view, denial isn’t particularly helpful when you have to move on. But it’s hard to come to acceptance. The SW and particularly The End were necessary for Jack’s understanding.

Interested to hear responses from others!

Tired of waiting for a podcast that seems like it’s never going to come.

Ready to move on from lost. Enjoyed the ride, enjoyed the podcasts and discussion with you all everybody.

Personally I’ve never liked fan fiction. I think we should just take what they gave us and be done with it. They gave us the story they wanted to tell. If we didn’t like it, tough

I was one Of those that didn’t like the ending, was left unsatisfied on the lack of answers and felt I had wasted 6 years watching the show.

That said, I accept what they gave us and have moved on. I don’t feel it’s our place to rewrite it or basically say what they should have done differently.

I feel that re-writing the ending is basically throwing dirt in the faces of the writers/producers, saying what they gave us isn’t good enough and saying you could have done better.

I’m not trying to pick a fight or anything, and this post is in response to other rewrites I’ve seen online, not just yours. But I just wanted to express how I felt about stuff like that.

Its been too long.

Been winding up summer with chaotic comings and goings, but wanted to take a second to reconnect with one of my favorite places on all the web.

I contacted Ryan about this post, and he felt it was cool for me to proceed with inviting anyone that was interested to take a look at an Alternative Season 6 Script over at:

This is a project I started pretty much by accident as the series ended, and I just wasn’t satisfied by the conclusions we were left with. So, I-like so many here-delved deeper into all that had come before with Lost, worked ideas, theories, and just had fun playing in that world while trying to find answers. Or at least hints of answers.

What came out in the end was a rough outline for an alternate version of everything that happens after THE INCIDENT. And after that came the hard part of filling in the rest to a roughly 200 page script.

In the end 200 pages would be a mere three hours or so on screen, but was three months or so in the making.

I felt like I should stick to the hiatus timeframe the writers had in coming up with this alternative. I also felt it was important in being frustrated by the ending to be able to point to something and say how it could have been different.

And even so, l understand better now how things I really wanted to include were just not right in terms of timing, placement, or tone. it helped me see that even with the best intensions there is just too much to ever squeeze in.

So, in the end, working out another ending I came to a better place of peace with what we all saw.

Sure, according to quantum physics, its possible the events of the ReDUX could occur as well as those of Season 6. But more its just a prism to imagine another end for the show. Which, I came to see, was really a nearly impossible task.

And as it seems things have simmered here a bit on YAE after the epilog, I wanted to offer any that were interested the invitation to take a look at the story.

Truly the ReDUX project was fueled so much by this blog, this show, and all the amazing people that helped make this such an amazing experience.

Which is why I felt like I should share it with You All Everyone.

Poor Claire, she was REALLY left behind, several times. Plus Desmond left at the Hatch, Walt by Michael when they got back home, and Michael was left behind when his wife took Walt and then the others. You really have something there, Hurley’s dad left him, Kate’s father left her.

The Jay and Jack rewatch podcast starts 9/22 (the orginal pilot date), they are going to do two episodes a week for 15 months give or take with time off for holiday weeks etc.

What does it mean to be left behind? Was Kate’s mom left behind by Wayne’s death? Yes. And so on. So much careful layering of themes and interweaving of character stories. So interesting on rewatch when I already know the story and can pay more attention to the crafting. I am really enjoying it even more the second time around.

I just felt bad for Fox ~ at least O’Quinn and Emerson were previously honored, but Matthew not ~~ on my re-watch, I really did see he WAS the lead… it was primarily JACK’s story ~~ but the supporting cast was SO RICH ~~ it was easy to embrace equally or care more about other story lines

It really bugged me when the producers, critics or other fans claimed that “if you were expecting answers than you just didn’t understand the purpose of the show”. There were so many important plot points, upon which so much hinged that ended up simply disregarded. I’ll accept “They just ran out of time” or “We painted ourselves in the corner with that storyline” but don’t pin in on my lack of understanding.

At any rate, Walt’s abduction, the Dharma food drop, the infertility issue and even the Hurley bird (given how far out in left field it was at the time) were major developments. I think it was beyond arrogant to avoid touching on these items in the final season. Well, I greatly appreciate each of those items being addressed on the DVD in some small way. I enjoyed the finale but somehow felt that the storytellers did not keep an inherent promise to their audience. The producers negotiated an end-date for the series because they claimed they wanted to work towards a conclusion and didn’t want “it all to be middle”. This epilogue went along way for me to that end.

Well… no lost emmys… But the supporting already got them and everyone knows how good those guys are (and everyone should watch Breaking Bad so it is good that they promote this show), Mathiew Fox was great and was the “heroe” in Lost but somehow I can’t understand that he would be “main actor”. It was a cast of castaways and I never percived anyone of them less important than the others… And he is going to have a lot of acting opportunities so I wouldn’t worry about him. Elizabeth Mitchell is already on V and is someone very appreciated but I guess not old enough to win. One last thing about the actors, I said it before but I say it again: Jorge should have been nominated, he would have won. I am really looking forward for anythings those guys are going to be doing, it will be great I am sure. (Now I sooo hope that Emerson ends up working in True Blood with his wife. And he does look like a sick and twisted vampire already)
Now about the show: The last episode won editing. And this season and the flashsideway world… it was very well edited. But then…
It was very well written (tho not anwsering everything) but somehow I think you would have to have watched all the episodes to the connections. I am not sure that the Emmy jury works this way. Lost could never have won due to that. Just like “The Wire” I guess. And if Mad Men or Breaking Bad are winning more it is just due to one simple fact: 10 to 13 episodes a year… half the other shows. It is quite easier to have a better “picture” of what everything is about if you just watch 5 to 6 episode of those show than 5 episodes of a 24episode show. And when a show is as serialised as Lost you need to watch all the episodes to get the picture… then it is easy to understand that only the “form”/editing won a price and not the “content”/writing or the whole/show.
But eventually, who cares… we do love the show. We will remember it and talk about it long after it is over (I will soo listen to the “rewatch” Jay and Jack will be doing). And now we will also have opportunities to discover other great stuff… Popspotting I am looking at you!

Watched The movie Passengers last night which some suggested reminded them of LOST. I can see that it relates to 6th season but it comes up short of being really good. It is the type of movie I do enjoy, though this one was a bit uneven.

Hard to imagine this is the last transmission!

The masterminds behind the DVD box did an awesome job, the quality shows how much heart and passion when into it! I almost didn’t want to open it! I still haven’t looked through all the goodies and easter eggs yet!
When watching the bonus features, I promised myself I wouldn’t cry, but watching “crafting the final season” I broke down!! lol

watching the the new man in charge, made me miss the show even more! The only question I had was, how did Walt get into Santa Rosa!!

Bummer to see “LOST” shut out in the Emmy’s. Stiff competition this year, though, at least in most categories. I was most bummed about Giacchino losing out to “24″ last week.

It was great to have 12 more minutes of Lost. I enjoyed it although I have mixed emotions about the Walt scene. It seemed strange to me that Ben, his enemy, would have reached out to him and gottten him to go to the island. Didn’t find it that credible. Would have been better with Hurley. First part was great and I loved how Ben let them have two questions.

Can’t wait for the final transmission. Don’t think we’ll ever have such a great blog again for any TV show. Ryan and Jen – could you do a Fringe blog? That would probably bring many of the old crowd back!!!
