Aloha to Nunu

Nunu, the beloved dog of Jorge Garcia and Bethany Shady, died last month just as they all were preparing to leave Hawaii. Nunu had her own share of fans, and even appeared in an episode of “LOST” this season. We sent our condolences, and memorialized Nunu at the Memorial Day lantern floating ceremony the next day. But I felt the “LOST” fan community could do more.

"LOST" ButtonTaking inspiration from Jo, I’d like to encourage “LOST” fans to pay tribute to Nunu by making a donation in her name to the Hawaiian Humane Society. If you donate $10 or more, we’ll send you a limited-edition pin from the “Sunset on the Beach” premiere of “LOST” in January.

Most of the people at the “Sunset on the Beach” event didn’t get these, whereas T-shirts were in abundant supply. But thanks to a generous benefactor, we have dozens available for this special cause. You can get a pin for every $10 donated, and you can have your pin sent to a friend as a gift… while supplies last!

Need more convincing? Here’s a video montage of Nunu that Jorge and Beth made in 2006:

Support the good work of the Hawaiian Humane Society and leave a great island legacy for Nunu. Donate here, and email us your receipt. Of course, be sure to include your mailing address. Mahalo for your consideration.

Ryan, you never cease to amaze me with your kindness. I am honored to have met you while in Hawaii for the Season 6 premiere. I thoroughly enjoyed the day long tour you & Jen did for us and I sincerely appreciated all the phone help you gave me during my own rental car “tour”. Kudos to you and Jen for doing this in honor of Nunu for Jorge and Beth. Mahalo. 🙂

To those of us who have no children, I think we have the tendency to treat our pets like children. I certainly do not intend to insult any parents out there, but my 20-year-old cat died on June 1st and I am grieving for her like I grieved for my father and my brother when they died. I feel like I lost my baby. My house feels so empty without her and when I get home from work and sit down to relax, I automatically look at my feet expecting her to be there.

I think that this was a great idea Ryan and Jen. I hope that perhaps a deluge of donations in Nunu’s name will help easy Jorge and Beth’s pain a little.

I just got my kitty’s ashes back yesterday and the company that did it did such a wonderful job. Included with her ashes was a beautiful little story or poem called “Rainbow Bridge.” I read it and cried for an hour. Telling friends about it, I found that a lot of people knew it. I’d like to share it here, since this thread is a tribute to Nunu and perhaps it may help other people who are especially touched by the death of a pet.

    Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When a special pet dies they go to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His ears are up. His nose twitches. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you take him into your arms and embrace. The happy licks rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
