Just a few points from “The Little Prince”: With the find of the Ajira Airlines water bottle in the canoe, I share the belief that this is the way the Oceanic 6 return to the island. But where do you land a plane on a tropical island? How about a runway on the Hydra! Then the O6 used the canoes (like Sawyer, Kate and Carl did) to paddle to the main island. Ben always has a plan, so maybe he ordered the building of a runway should he (or anyone else) need to fly to the island.

Also, where are Rose and Bernard?! Could they be so frightened by the flashes and flaming arrows that they ran for cover…maybe into a cave. They could be Adam and Eve. The caves have collapsed now, so maybe they entered the caves in the past, then they flashed to the future and BAM!, got stuck in the caves and died. Remember, the bodies did have a black and a white stone on them when Jack found them, maybe this was forshadowing their ethnicity.

I feel that the best explanation of how Jin arrived in 1988 is the “dead doctor” explanation.

But, if Jin is not jumping repeatedly through time, is he going to remain in that time with Danielle and her crew? This would lead to the question “Did (or does) Danielle kill Jin when she kill the rest of her crew?”

Also, how could Ben use the fact that Jin is not dead to console Sun? How would feel if your spouse were transported to another time or place and not able to get back? If Jin is unable to return to or communicate with Sun, it is hardly and different than being dead.

Unless Jin is now going to be reunited with Sun 20 years older, there should be another time jump in store.

Why would the USA loose track of a H-bomb in the 50′s?
The answer may be that those who brought Jughead on the island were not american, but rather mercenaries.
There is no reason why any atomic bomb would leak after only a few weeks…

1) Minkowski, Desmond (and the guy in the body bag from the Freighter) all had time travelling consciousnesses. They got nosebleeds because they did not come/go from the island on a bearing based on when in time they were. For Desmond this was 305.

2) Freighter Doctor and Jin arrive on the island at an out of sync time because they were travelling based upon another bearing. The Doctor arrived dead before he really died and Jin arrived in 1988 before he should have. No known nosebleed issues (yet). I wonder if the Dharma drops fall into this category?

3) Losties are physically travelling in time due to the FDW releasing energy from the Orchid. They get nosebleeds based upon the amount of time they have spent on the island (most to least). Charlotte, Miles, then Juliette.

I think you keep what you are in contact with when you jump. Locke kept the compass when he jumped to 1954 after getting fixed up by Richard. The Losties kept the Canoe when they jumped from some unknown future date to 1988 (when the Besixdouze wreckage was found). The Zodiac was no longer there (at the unknown future date) because they were not in contact with it at the time of the jump (they were near Claire/Kate in the jungle).

Read most of the comments and I continued to be amazed by all the great theories that I can read in the comments here.

This has probably been covered in some of the comments I didn’t read but here it goes anyway.
I think the sphere theory is great and I’m willing to buy that one as an answer for why Jack, Kate etc. wasn’t inside the radius. The answer how Jin was inside the radius when the freighter wasn’t could very well be because the freighter wasn’t with them, and hasn’t been in real contact with the island.

I also loved the contrast of the young Danielle. She is so healthy looking, so sweet, so open and trusting. What a difference to the hard, cynical, lonely woman she became.

There has also been a lot of speculation about the connection between Charlotte and Daniel. I think an important point to remember is that his exact words were “I am in love with this woman” not I love this woman. Which tells me there is no family connection between the two.

Great episode, not as good as Jughead. We are finally getting some answers. I am more certain than ever that there will be some loose threads and some of stuff that they touched on in the first couple seasons will certainly be neglected but on the other side it does seem that the creators have a definite plan.

There are some things that I know are inconsequential in the big scheme of things but they still bother me. One is Bernie and Rose, where are they? Why aren’t any of them asking about them or looking for them? Also, what about Claire? I mean they really do not know what happened to her and nobody seems to be asking about her. She just walked of in the jungle so why do they assume so nonchalantly that they have lost her.

Jack is really a poor judge of character, it was also him that did not believe Sayid when it came to Ben in S2. How and why on earth would he ever believe that Ben is on their side? He is naive in more ways than one.

So Ben told Locke that the price that he has to pay is that he can never return to the island, it seems that this was another lie. He is devious the little bug-eyed man, everyone should know that by now. So is his only motivation to bring little Aaron back to the island? Is Locke and all the others only a means to get the little and only prince back to the island? There must be a great significance to Aaron the first child to be born on the island after such a long time!

I wonder if Sun wants to shoot Ben? She could also target Jack or Kate for reasons that may not be clear yet. Ben seems the most probable but you never know. If Sun could find Ben and Jack why wouldn’t Widmore find them and get rid of Ben who clearly is a nemesis? I guess it could be that Sun will do him a favor and then he will owe her. Wow, my brain hurts…

Are the Losties in the boat being shot by their own comrades, the oceanic six? I believe that is probable but I also believe that they are doing it because they did not recognized eachother. It looked though as if Juliette actually hit somebody though.

If Locke leaves the island will he be back in the wheelchair? He was, understandably, reluctant to leave the island is seasons past and he is motivated to do it for the sake of the island now. Will the island protect him when he leaves the island.

It must be said that newcomers always have it difficult in an established show but I love Juliette (never trust her), Daniel, Ginger and Miles. I genuinely care for them, they are interesting. Well, maybe not as much as Froghurt, sorry Neal!

About all teh bloody noses and the headaches. I understand that the time travel is doing this but help me understand why it also happened to Minowski on the freighter for example? It hit him much sooner than anyone else, so does that also mean that he spend time on the island in the past? I ask that because it seems that this “disease” is getting to people that have spens significant time on the island. Juliette, Des, Miles and Ginger (last two I presume).

Now how on earth did Jin ever get back to 1988? Was he out at sea time travelling with all the other Losties? Or is he on a different time travel trip? I of course understand why Jin is teh only survivor from the freighter but it was actually a good opportunity to make it a bit more realistic to have a couple other SOX (is that how the acronym is spelled) saved as well. If nothing else it would be more bodies to blow up.

I know this is getting long but I would like to add a theory. I believe most of us are actually wondering one and the same thing, what is it that draws people to the island? I believe that this is the key to understand what is going on. I do not believe that it is only that the island cures disabilities and diseases, for some reason I do not believe that this is the only reason. I believe there is more to it. I believe that the island has that special ability to keep people young, that is why Alpert never really ages. It would also go to explain to me why Widmore wants to go back to the island and why he wants to wipe out everybody else. He wants to be the one that eternally controls the island for his own use, I do not believe that he wants to profit from the island financially. Was it not Tom that said that they have been on the island for a very long time and that it was their island? So all the others that came on the island, like maybe the US and French military who used to do a lot of experimenting with bombs in the Pacific, threatened to destroy or throw its equilibrium off were unwanted intruders. This would mean that Widmore is actually an islander who for one reason or another was thrown off the island. Was he ostracized by Alpert or was he forced to leave the island by some other event? I maybe talking over my head here, the future -or the past will tell.

I usually skip the Forward Cabin but over the hiatus I did listen to a some parts and you Ryan were spot on about the French people. It is interesting thought that Rousseau actually now has a French accent, I guess it turns into a Yugoslavian accent when you stay alone on teh island for 16 years

Last but least I believe that Lost has now become a show for the fans, I believe that it is very hard to get up to speed in order to understand what is going on and I for one respect the creators for keeping it smart without compromising the story for purposes other than the story itself.

Could it be that we’re all just supposed to think that Jin’s flashing around with the rest of them but in reality he actually floated into the island at bearing that caused him to appear during Rousseau’s arrival? I guess we’ll know if after the next flash the left behind Losties all look around and say – where the heck is Jin?

And I’m not sure if I’ve noted this before, but Sawyer’s left handed. The way he holds the M1 Garand in his hand is that of a leftie. Dominant hand on the grip/trigger guard and non-dominant hand providing support on the barrel.

On another note, I theorize that Daniel Faraday screwed something up in his experiments and those mishaps are the basis of everything we see on LOST. He unknowingly unravelled something in the space time balance that caused the events we see on the show.

* I think Locke’s “suffering” comment is more Buddhist than Christian, actually. The first of the four noble truths of Buddhism is that “Life is suffering.” Of course, many of us already know that Buddhist salvation is found through the Buddha, the Sangha (community of the Buddha), and (most lost-important) the Dharma (teachings of the Buddha).

* Someone here was wondering why Ben’s lawyer was working for Oceanic. Uh, I think he was working for Ms. Littleton AGAINST Oceanic…

*I agree with NuckinFuts that being near the island and the flashing are two different things. In the first instance I think it causes your consciousness to jump, in the second case I think it causes your body AND your consciousness to jump. In that case I don’t think people need constants, that whole group should be each others constants.

*Where are Rose and Bernard? Are they jumping?

*We meet Ellie in the mid 50s at about age 15. If Daniel is born in mid 1970s, she’d be a normal 35 year old mom. I really think Daniel found a way to time travel back at some point and that explains him being in the orchid station (?) all those years back. He went back to check them out. …

*I think this episode was good on answers and stuff but the story part of it did feel weak to me. That said, I am fully along for the ride and I usually watch every episode while doing my ironing because if I watched it sitting down I’d probably jump out of my chair every five minutes because the show really is still that exciting.

“Kevin, I thought the same thing re: how Jin could be in the radius but not the helicopter but I reasoned it this way: if you think of the island as the center and its power radiates outward, it is most likely radiating outward in a sphere. The widest area of that sphere would be the slice in the center (ie: at sea level) and as you rise up in altitude, the slices would diminish in their circumference. Thus, the helicopter could be sufficiently high enough that it would be out of the radius and yet Jin, being at sea level, could be within.”

Great podcast, BTW.

But just think how short the series would be if all information was shared in a realistic, logical manner. While it may be frustrating, it does build a lot of tension and gives the writers more options about how and when to release information from episode to episode. But it does want to make you tear your hair out sometimes!;O)

On a related note: Why did the dugout canoes jump with them? Previously, it seemed that the Zodiac and whatever possessions the Losties had on them at the time traveled with them as the island moved. However, this doesn’t seem consistent anymore. Also, how is it that Jin went along with the time-travelers from all the way out by the freighter, but the group in the helicopter–which had been flying directly toward the island–got left behind? These are just questions; hopefully answers will be forthcoming.

I agree with Angela J. also because Claire’s mom really would have legal rights to Aaron, and really, Kate should be happy that he can be with family. However, we know this would compromise their cover story, but I still think Kate was a little out of line with keeping him. Especially since she was also telling Jack “I’ve always been WITH you” in the same breath as she was justifying keeping Aaron because she lost Sawyer and friends on the island. But, again, once they have a story they have to stick with it. Man, sounds like Hurley was right about all that, huh? Maybe he will be their next 4-toed God!!!
OK, still, the anagram for the van Ben was using was REINCARNATION… Any thoughts? I was checking out the timeline on Lostpedia of events before the 815 crash, and it seems like there are definite generational groupings, with a lot of mid 70s-early 80′s births of prominent characthers, then there is a grouping of births one generation ahead of that mid 50′s-early 60′s. Maybe Jacob is constantly being reincarnated into humans, and whichever human the Others happen to think it is, is the person they have as their human leader, while Jacob continues to lead from the ‘Other’ side – pardon the play on words!

When Jack was in the cage and saw the flight attendant and the kids they said that they were “Observing”. Perhaps they were observing…but from the future…they were Flashing since the turn of the wheel. The word “Observing” tells me that they had decided not to mess w/ anything in the past…and that she may have even seen Jack again ( at this point returned to the island ) and they were sort of taking a tour of the past. Wow.

I think that if you are near the island you feel the effects. On the approach you would be possible at various bearings and yet you are not physically moving through time. This can cause your brain to malfunction and send your thoughts to different times. This is when you would need a “Constant”. We have seen nosebleeds, but really no-one has passed comatose, forgotten everyone near them and freaked out like Desmond did in “The Constant”. It was explained that you would need to find someone or something that was in BOTH times to ground you.

#2. Flashing. If you were on / near the island when the FDW was turned you would be caught in the Flash-Storm. ( Possibly…that is why it was considered dangerous…maybe it is not guaranteed to cause a Flash storm ). When you or the items with you ( touching these items, right? ) are exposed to a Flash you will go through time. Your Body goes through time, that is…and your mind ). So…the constant rules do not apply to this situation and the nosebleeds based on Faraday: “Like bad jet-lag” as your mind catches up to your body. So….I’m not sure…but has anyone died yet at all from just the Flashes? I don’t think so. So perhaps you don’t die…but you get…sick. I think Daniel was guessing to some of this…so perhaps there is no reason some get sicker quicker than others…it’s just random and happens. ( Not 100% sure w/out re-watching ).

And of course : All those that were not with you when you turned the wheel have no idea that time is changing and do not go w/ you either.

In conclusion : I think we are dealing w/ 2 different illnesses here.

Quick Sub-Note: Perhaps when “the Losties” crashed, the people on “The List” were people that could handle this and some other yet-untold knowledge and not want to return, as well as children that were capable of handling anything or be taught that was how things were.

That said…I can agree that there are a few weak devices right now as Martin points out above…however…this is LOST and I am convinced that sooner or later someone ( a Lostie ) will pin someone ( hopefully Ben ) down and force them to spill the beans rather than not asking enough questions up front. It does seem like the best laid plans and critical thinking skills that these characters have ( referring to the Losties mostly ) was when they devised the plan to lie about the crash & the Island. I think that Jack will step up and start asking questions soon…as well as Sawyer…

Now…I think that they used the canoe becuase they were convinced by Locke that #1 it would be quicker to get to the Orchid #2 By this time Locke ( and possibly Sawyer ) had made their minds up that they would not interfere w/ the things that had happened in the past. If they were on the canoe in the water far out then they would be less likely to run into themselves or anyone else ( like a bunch of flaming arrow guys ).

If I re-watch soon ( and probably will ) I may be back w/ more thoughts – - namaste!

Back to the nosebleeds. Do you think that Charlotte’s stopped because Daniel is her constant? She was “unconscious” and maybe her mind had gone somewhere else in time so she didn’t at first know where she was and then she did know because she connected with her constant?

Unfortunately, my first comment here must be a negative one. I thought last night’s episode (“The Little Prince”) was one of the worst ever (which is odd, considering it followed one of the best ever).

It was as if the director and/or writers just returned from a seminar titled “Bad Script Writing for Even Worse Soap Operas: How to Create Artificial Drama in Order Stretch Five Minutes of Story into 45 Minutes of Screen Time.”

Near the beginning of the episode, Jack discovers an assassin(?) with Kate’s address in his wallet. He then spends the rest of the episode with Kate and doesn’t bother to tell her that she may be in danger until almost the final scene. Kate continues to ask him “why did you call me?” And rather than just tell her, Jack gets coy and asks about her situation. JUST FREAKIN’ TELL HER! Poorly written artificial drama.

Faraday knows why Charlotte’s bleeding, but doesn’t want to tell anybody. What the heck is that about? More poorly written artificial drama.

The islanders stumble across a canoe, then without discussion randomly decide to paddle out to sea rather than remain on the island they now know so well. Had they stayed, they could have scouted the new arrivals. But nope – let’s all paddle into the ocean, with no idea why or where we are going. Then, hey, a group that left probably 20 minutes later suddenly catches up and opens fire. Then they flash, end up in a storm, and head back for shore. For real? What purpose did this scene serve? Yet more poorly written artificial drama. Worse, pointless artificial drama.

To end on a positive note – Jin & Rousseau was awesome, even if the buildup lacked any degree of subtlety. And I’m looking forward to a Miles v. Sawyer Sarcasm Smackdown.

Also, don’t have any theories yet on this, but I totally dig the idea that our characters can run into younger versions of their ancestors and/or descendants. Oh, the possibilities! The mind boggles!!

2. Perhaps Charlotte was fine when they flashed after Aaron was born forward (presumably) to when the canoes were at the camp because it was a FUTURE time, not a trip to the past. That fits nicely with the O6 canoes theory as well, and would explain why she was well enough to help paddle, etc. – Imagine what the O6 folks thought when they returned to the island to find an abandoned camp because the survivors were time traveling? They probably thought that some remnants of Keamy’s team killed them or some other terrible fate.
3. I don’t think Alex was ever intended to be considered Ben’s biological daughter, as Rousseau said she was stolen from her by the Others.
4. Ben only did the Purge within the last 16-20 years, right? Surely Widmore was long gone by then, otherwise Penny would have been born on the island, as she appears mid-late 20′s. Plus, he would have needed many years to build his empire, Widmore labs, etc. I wonder if he was off the island years before the purge, but funding the ‘hostiles’ offensive against Dharma, and being the leader the Others from off the island, when Ben became the leader because he killed his father/aided in the purge, etc? Maybe this is why Widmore thinks Ben took what was ‘his’, the control of the Others?
5. I get the feeling that Sun was already visited by Locke before his ‘suicide’ and was told Jin was alive and asked to work with Ben to trap Widmore (for the future safety of the island) and to convince Kate to go back the island with Aaron. Sun convinced Kate to meet with the lawyer (Kate said “It was your idea” to Sun) to eventually lead her to see Claire’s mother and to be scared into ‘running away’. I think the preview which shows Ben telling Sun that Jin is alive is just for the benefit of the remaining O6-ers to learn this fact, and to cover the fact that Sun was working with Locke/Ben all along.
She implied that Kate would ‘do anything’ to keep Aaron, etc, and perhaps this is her own justification for her actions since she wants to reunite with Jin. So maybe she is as evil as Ben and Widmore, neither of which seem to think they are the evil-doers. And maybe neither of them are, they might both think they are doing what they have to do to save the world, island, whatever.
6. I think Daniel knows Miss Hawking, but I am not convinced that she is his mother, as he looks like he was not born until the mid or late 70′s which was about 25 years after we first meet her as Ellie, who appeared about 14 in the episode. Perhaps she was a professor of his and that was why Ellie looked like someone he ‘used’ to know? Maybe Miss Hawking is his grandmother? Or maybe she has visited him, like she visited Desmond, and that is why he notices a familiarity?
7. Back to reincarnation, do you think maybe Aaron is supposed to be the reincarnation of someone that dies on the island? He was born just as Boone died.
I have more completely random half-baked ideas, but will post this for now.

It would seem that Ben doesn’t want Sayid to go back to the island. He has tranq’ed him once and tried a second time. So does this mean that not all O6 ‘have to go back’? And was Ben being truthful when he says that he can’t.

Charlotte wake’s up and doesn’t remember Daniel. Much like Des. So I would think that she’s mentally traveling to a point in the past. Then she says Daniel and is all better. Hmmmm. Locke plants the idea to go the Orchid (manipulation) in Sawyer using the “don’t you want to see her” possibility. Sawyer further buys the idea that Locke will in fact get off the island, when he asks “Kate. What are you going to say to her to get her to come back?” We see hatch light and Aaron’s birth. You can hear Kate “You can’t stop this from happening. . . .”

FLASH to future day, Sawyer calls Locke “Johnny Boy” Locke is always in “a world of pain” Miles calls everyone else “Yahoos” Sawyer calls out (yelling again) Anybody here. Hello, anybody want a Dharma beer? Rose? Bernard?” (Thank you Sawyer for thinking about our missing Losties) They find Vincents leash, zodiac missing. But 2 new outriggers with Ajira water bottle. Juliet knows about Ajira, based in India but has flights around the world. Hmmmmm

That would be high powered rifle fire from chasing canoe. Juliet earned her Others Marksmanship Badge. “Time travel is a bitch” [like Ben’s “Fate is a fickle bitch” (not sure that’s exactly right).

Best line: “Thank you Lord.” flash. Storm. “I take that back.” (Sawyer)

Would love to read translation of Danielle’s team. They used to sub title foreign language scenes. Very happy to see Jin’s story. There’s a violin in the wreckage. The radio that Montand (sp?) has is repeating a message in a man’s voice 4,16, 23 . . . i think.

I was thinking the same thing!

You could speculate that the canoe is from the future like they are. But then they are from the past in relationship to the future canoe and should have disappeared from the canoe. Either way they would have to swim to shore.

I think the Zodiac was taken by someone and didn’t just disappear.

I don’t think the O6 are the one’s shooting at them, they wouldn’t need the canoe back and they wouldn’t be foolish enough to shoot at people they couldn’t identify properly. I think it’s Juliette shooting at herself

For instance, the beam of light from the hatch… wasnt it following a big explosion ?
But wasnt Kate going down the hatch with John’s cable then ? She wasnt giving birth to Aaron wasnt she?
Maybe the beam was from the time the hatch was being constructed – 70s?
But Kate (and Claire) wasnt around then

They had been jumping back up from 1954
Why would they go the 2004 but then back to the late 80′s

why wouldnt Desmond be intrigued by seeing Dan not wearing any suit out of the hatch ?
I think I would have peeked a snif out of my suit to see if it was clean air

Why did Charlotte suddenly get better? I was totally confused by that. I’ll have to watch again to see if I missed anything.

Soooooo excited to see Jin!! I guess he’s in the same timeline as our other islanders and will flash away from Danielle fairly soon. I’m looking forward to seeing the sequence of events leading to Alex becoming Ben’s daughter.

And it seems like only a matter of time before Jin and the others meet up…the French boat wreckage and life raft can’t have drifted too too far apart.

I’m all confused with the constant stuff. Is it possible that Ben is the constant for Miles, Charlotte, Juliet? Do they even need one? Eeek.

Agreed, all this time skipping is starting to explain the whispers in the jungle. But what about the smoke monster?? Bet that will be answered in the last episode of season 6, haha!

Loved the preview for next week, oooooh I can’t wait.

Last night I was a little frustrated by “The Little Prince”. My main concern is whether or not there will be a twist involved with the O6 getting back to the island. I will be more than let down if Ben gets them all together and they simply hop on a boat and sail up to the island. I kind of can’t wait until they are on the island, I love the island so much more than L.A.

Also, the immediate “cut to” scenes used to be great when we were seeing the characters have flash backs but now it feels kind of cheesy. I’m referring to instances like when last night Jack says something along the lines of “Claire’s mom doesn’t even know about Aaron, who could possibly be messing with us” and then it instantly cuts to Ben. I hope the whole season doesn’t reveal information that easily.

But I digress, this show is amazing and for some reason I get frustrated at the beginning of every new season.

I did however love the part when Locke sees the light from when he discovered the hatch, that was such a great moment in the show. I’m starting to think the entire show is a representation of memories and regrets.

Also, Charlotte tells Daniel that he does not need to baby her. Could she be his daughter by Theresa? Far out! (She looks so much like Theresa.)

And finally, two large moles have been removed from Carole Littleton’s face. One on the chin and one near her eye. They were there when she spoke to Jack at his father’s funeral but gone in this episode. Not anything plot related. Just cosmetic, I guess.

But some prelims:
-Someone had a good point. What’s the difference between the nosebleeds that Charlotte/Miles have and the one Minkowski had? As far as we know, the following things, either singly or in combination lead to being unstuck in time and getting the nosebleeds; 1) Approaching/Leaving the Island in a non-305 degree bearing (Minkowski/Desmond), 2) Being exposed to high levels of radiation or electromagnetism (Minkowski-radio operator/Desmond-Swan), 3) Prolonged exposure to/life on the Island (Miles/Charlotte). I’m guessing 1 & 2 cause a more immediate incapacity & death than #3.

-Daniel has #2 due to his experiments at Oxford (likely) and it has been speculated that #3 is applicable is he was conceived & born on the Island. But as Ron Kaplan pointed out, perhaps Dan isn’t showing symptoms either because he’s lived on the Island less than Miles or Charlotte or because “If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my Constant.”

-So according to Dan’s words in “The Constant”, both Charlotte & Miles need to find something (or someone) that they really really care about that exists in their present time (2004) and also exists in whatever time period they jump in. For Desmond, he had to make contact with Penny in 2004. So, can Miles & Charlotte find something or someone that existed in the past that they can also find in the future? If the story goes this route, we’ll definitely being going into their backstory.

-I don’t know about anyone else, but I hope they stick around 1988 a bit. I hope they show “The Sickness” that Danielle talked about, how she lost Alex to Ben, and how “Montand lost his frickin’ arm” in the Dark Territory.

Thought I’d add my two cents to all the others with too much time on their hands.

A few thoughts following last night’s episode:

Found this one a bit disappointing. Would have thought the Little Prince referred to Aaron (who I believe to be “the chosen one”, a la the Dalia Lama) would be more Kate-centric.

Claire’s mom was a waste-of-time red herring, but Jin showing up with the Rousseau expedition was cool. Enjoyed the tension until they picked him up in their raft. But if he’s alive, I imagine others from the boat explosion could be as well. Good. More red shirts /socks.

Ben seems to have been telling the truth when he said Alex wasn’t his daughter, since Rousseau was obviously pregnant upon arrival to the island. (unless the baby turns out not to be Alex).

Are Charlotte, Miles, and Daniel all “island babies?” Only Daniel has a constant, so that’s why he doesn’t get nosebleeds.

Whoever is after Sayid (and Hurley?) obviously doesn’t want to kill, otherwise why the tranq darts instead of plain old bullets?

And unless Ben was lying (there’s a shocker), didn’t he say that the person who moves the island can never come back? So why is he leading the move to get Jack, Kate, et al back? That’s one problem I have with the show. There is frequently a “yes, but” explanation, so the rules keep changing.

I believe the surveillance folder, the box of chocolates, and the gun Sun received in the mail was from Ben. He’s crafty enough to set up his own execution confident he can talk himself out of it. He knew he’d be the only bait Sun would come after. I’m sure when Sayid went after Hurley, he thought he was doing something that was his idea. I’m sure it was really an idea Ben planted in his head.

@Ernie B in the D of C – I thought I heard Yemi’s name as well. However, the transcript as listed “the M.E.” With as bad as the sound was last night, I forgive us misunderstanding.

I don’t have much else to add, other than that I am loving the hell out of season five. Seven days haven’t felt so long since early season 2. Roll on Wednesday!

Nosebleeds : It seems to me that there are two ways to look at this.

1) The longer the time on the island, the quicker you’ll get nosebleeds.

2) Your first time on the island a “timer” is started, thus the longer the span of time between first contact with the island, the quicker you’ll get nosebleeds.

The first explanation requires that Charlotte and Miles were on the island longer than Juliette… and don’t remember it. Possible, but the second explanation doesn’t require that. With the first explanation, Charlotte was on the island longer than Miles when they were children. I suppose that’s possible. The second explanation would require that she was on the island first… which doesn’t seem likely but with this wacky time travel, it could happen.

Canoe Wars : I like the idea that the canoe found was from the returning Losties. If we go with that, why must we assume that the pursuing canoe was filled with the same people? For example, the Oceanic 6 return, run around the island and stir up some trouble. They’re pursued. They give their pursuers the slip and these pursuers think that the Oceanic 6 have grabbed a canoe and gone back out to sea so they grab the other one and pursue, shooting at the first canoe.

Jin : At first, I wondered how they’d explain Danielle not knowing Jin later, but it’s really not too hard. We know she went a bit nuts at some point and that could do a number on her memories. Jin’s not going to be staying around long anyway, since everyone’s jumping fairly frequently.

I really like the idea of Locke finding out about Jin before he leaves to bring back the others. Then he can motivate Sun to return. The end of the episode would have you think that Sun’s going to kill Ben now, but I have a sneaky suspicion that she’s totally behind returning and is prepared to make sure that Kate goes back to save Jin. Even if she’s stepping out of the car with no knowledge of Jin, Ben might persuade her that Jin’s still alive and then we’re back to her forcing Kate along.

I kind of like sarcastic snarky Richard… “it’s a compass John, it points north.”

If Miles and Charlotte were born on the island, then that means it was before whatever was killing pregnant women was there. So if Jughead caused the radiation sickness, maybe it caused the pregnancy issues as well.

Bill, Juliet made some sort of comment that anything that you are sitting in or carrying goes with you (like the compass) – guess we just have to believe!!!

I also like the idea that the people who have had contact with or is brooding on their constant are less susceptible to the nose bleeds. Daniel has seen Desmond. Sawyer has seen Kate and been thinking about her. Daniel has been trying to become Charlotte’s constant.

So is Richard Locke’s Constant? I could think of no better constant than Richard. No matter what time he shifts to Richard will be there.

Is Jake Juliet’s Constant? Or perhaps Ben?

John Fischer — Thanks for the Little Prince synopsis. Had to read it in French class in high school and always hated it. It makes more sense in the context of Lost. I have one quarrel with your other post though:
“The nosebleeds are interesting. Apparently the longer a non-indigenous person has been on the island, the quicker his or her nose starts to bleed once the island starts shifting in time.”
If this is true, Sawyer and Locke would get nosebleeds before Juliet. She’s been on the island longer than they have. (See my other post above.) I took the same premise you did but it doesn’t seem to hold water.

Just one other thought re: Sawyer and Locke. Someone had posted last week about Sawyer’s left foot/toe injury and the four-toed statue on the island. The statue (http://www.endtimeprophecy.net/Jacob/images/Four-Toed-Statue.gif) seems to have a big toe, which is where Sawyer got injured. But wouldn’t it be interesting if he wound up getting deified because he killed Locke’s dad… which is the deed that essentially proves to the Others that Locke is worthy of being their leader.

(And the four toes appear to be on a humanoid foot, not, for instance, Vincent. )

Charlotte’s nose started first so she once lived on the island for a longer time than Miles who also seems to have lived there (baby Dr. Candle?). Finally Juliet’s nose started to bleed. We know she’s been there a few years only. At some point all of the Lost survivors will suffer the same fate and then finally Faraday himself who I suspect never actually lived on the island.

Couple questions:

1) who was shooting at the losties when they were paddling? The people they stole the boat from? The O6? But why would they be shooting at the Losties? They struck first and it seems that they could hear Sawyer yelling…

2) who are the people who landed on the island in the big wooden paddle boat and will we see them again?

3) This one’s really bothering me: Where are Rose and Bernard? Either I missed it and they were killed, or they’re still skipping through time on the island. Maybe they’re hiding somewhere? But where? I’ve never gone with the theory that they are others. I think they found a foxhole and they hiding in it until the island stops skipping.

4) it seems that Daniel knows more about Mile’s and Charlotte’s past than they do. Hopefully we’re getting closer to having that revealed.

While seemingly a children’s book, The Little Prince is anything but. It is a parable for all ages. It tells the story of a little prince who lives on a small planet which is so small that he can see 48 sunrises and sunsets a day. His most treasured possession is a rose which bloomed suddenly where usually baobab trees start. They of course must immediately be uprooted or they will destroy your planet.

The Little Prince leaves his small world to explore the universe. He is clearly searching for answers to the real meaning of life. Along the way he meets many strange and interesting people on their own tiny little planets – a drunk, a businessman, a king, a geographer and a lamplighter. Finally he arrives on earth.

Meanwhile an aviator, the book’s narrator has crashed in the desert, miles from civilization and worried about his own survival. Along comes the Little Prince who through a series of discussions tells him of his adventures and what he has learned. The pilot is a man of science. The Little Prince is a man of faith.

The Little Prince who has left his world longs to return to see if his rose has survived or if a sheep has eaten the rose. He encounters a fox who explains to him about what taming means. Finally desperate to return, he allows himself to be bitten by a snake. Although his body is too heavy to make the return trip to his planet, his spirit can. The pilot has finally learned about what truly matters in the world.

The story is much too complicated to go into too much detail. It seems clear, however, that The Little Prince is not Aaron or Jack. The Little Prince is Locke. The aviator is Jack. Locke must sacrifice his earthly body to return to his own planet, the island.

In so many ways the entire story of Lost parallels The Little Prince. It may well be the one book upon which a large part of the entire series is based. Can the man of faith convince the man of science what is truly important in life?

I thought Daniel implied that the longer you were *on* the island, the more protected you were from the nosebleeds. Thus if Miles had been there before, this would explain why Charlotte had them before him. Sawyer has been there 3-4 months, Juliet at least 3 years. How do we factor Miles and Charlotte into that timeline?

It’s pretty clear to me that the finality of the show after S3 (e.g. we’re only doing three more seasons and 64 [?] episodes) has really made the writing phenomenal. There’s no need to drag things out and introduce extraneous characters. I thought last season was fantastic and this season so far is on track to surpass it.

I hope that Jin’s time with the French will provide really cool opp’s for reveals and I think the language barrier will create misunderstandings. This could be related to why Danielle goes crazy. Imagine Jin is trying to explain the vaccine thing or something about the Losties experience and this leads her to become paranoid when he suddenly disappears with a flash. Her not recognizing him later could be that she has seen many other “ghosts”.

Happy, Happy Jin’s alive, can’t wait.

I’m wondering if the Losties on the Island are the source of any happenings in previous seasons that we haven’t thought about.

Miles is definitely Chang’s son. Charlotte more or less suspected she was from the Island, why didn’t Mile think the same for himself? Was he adopted?

Ajira Airlines makes its first appearance. Since the beach camp is there, I’m guessing that they skipped into the future at some indeterminate time.

JIN IS ALIVE!!! YES!!!! Okay, since they’ve all skipped to 1988 (2004-16 years), has Jin been in the water all throughout all the time skipping? And Danielle has definitely met Jin as an adult if I remember correctly. I wonder how they’ll explain this away, especially if she meets the other LOSTies.

Ryan, was the wreckage they showed in this episode the same as the ones you posted? If they did, they really shot the footage close to the airdate. Perhaps to cut down on spoilers? Or will we be with the Frenchies for a prolonged time or we’ll be coming back to them again perhaps?

Will rewatch the episode while taking notes and post again. Can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts on the episode.

Another meaty episode! Lots of questions: Will Rousseau’s group time shift with the Island Losties? My guess would be no. The Island group shifts into others’ timelines, never vice-versa. Did Ben, knowing Kate, set up the whole scenario with Claire’s mom and his lawyer, knowing she would follow the lawyer, see Ms. Littleton and then freak out? My guess is that Ben didn’t count on Jack joining up with Kate and finding out that Ms. Littleton is clueless about Aaron. He just wanted to give Kate a good reason to hide out by returning to the Island. Who are the Canoe People, and why do they have guns? What are they doing there and why did they arrive in canoes? Given the difficulty in finding the Island in the first place, how did THEY find it?

Now for something completely different. I have always been curious about why Richard Alpert, indeed all the Others, seem to be so hip and trendy with whatever time they are in. You would think that over time people who live on a strange isolated Island would lose touch with the latest clothing and hairstyles, that their language would reflect whatever time they were originally from, and that it would not evolve, but become frozen due to lack of exposure to the outside world…kind of like the Amish;O) I know that they had ways to get off the Island, but somehow I think you would still see something odd in their language, dress and mannerisms due to their isolation. Richard especially seems like he could have stepped off the streets of any modern day metropolis. I guess my question about these Others is why, if they have been on the Island for all these years, don’t they seem to act more like people cut off from civilization instead of like my next door neighbors?

The reveal of Ben’s lawyer wasn’t a big surprise, actually. Bloody nose definitely a nice vehicle to give a sense of urgency now. Miles is now almost certainly Pierre Chang’s offspring, but Charlotte may have even pre-dated Miles (if Daniel’s theory about the neurological problems being correlated with amount of time on the island). And Juliet with bloody nose? Oy!

A good episode and would seem to imply that we won’t have to wait long before the Oceanic 6 makes the trek back to the island (depending on how Sun ends up influencing the group next week).

My guess how things will pan out? Sun will actually be revealed to be working with Ben and she’ll shoot the person hired by Widmore who has been spying on Ben. It will then just be a matter of waiting for Hurley to be released and the Oceanic 6 will be on board to go back to the island.

Desmond, Penny and Charlie will, of course, show up and perhaps throw some sort of monkey wrench into things though which may require that they actually go back to the island as well (no mention yet as to whether Desmond, or for that matter Frank, would need to go back too). My thinking on that is that Widmore will have Desmond followed since he knows exactly where in Los Angeles he will be going and that will lead Widmore ultimately to Ben. From there, who knows but I’m sure it will be a fun journey.

One quick one I’ve got. Through the muffled (read: crappy) sound, it sure sounded like Dan Norton (Ben’s lawyer) said when he was at the window of the van describing Hurley’s situation: “Yemi said that the man found outside Santa Rosa was killed before Reyes escaped” I can’t be fully positive, but it sure sounded like he said Yemi… I’d like to figure this (and of course everything else) out, but am utterly reduced to “Mongo don’t know. Mongo just pawn in game of life…”

After all this time, I have become used to the LOST episode pattern of season premiere, stall, stall, revelation, stall, stall, season finale.
Going into tonight’s episode I wasn’t expecting any great revelation, but Danielle Rousseau + an alive Jin + 5 of the Oceanic 6 all together?
It’s just too much epic goodness -I’m starting to get a nosebleed!
It’s like the writers are rewarding all of us faithful viewers by giving it all to us without the boring filler.

I am really enjoying the enhanced episodes, they give out nice chunks of ino. For instance, Charlie was named after Charlie Pace not Penny’s dad. We all knew it but it was nice to have it confirmed.

I really liked this episode. It definately wasn’t mythology heavy nor did it move at the pace of the first 3 episodes, but there were a lot of really great character-building moments that are the real backbone of this show. A few people mentioned Sawyer’s pining for Kate and his interaction with Juliet. I also thought the interaction between Kate and Jack off the island was really good. All the unspoken tension. Jack trying to figure out how to get her to come back to the island; Kate still unsure of how to handle Jack after their falling out. I’m not typically a fan of either of them, but Matthew Fax and Evangeline Lilly both turned in noteworthy performances in this episode. However Josh Holloway is clearly stealing the show…although Sawyer could do much better than Kate.

I really felt the tension of this episode. The Oceanic 6 storyline was filled with mystery, danger, and story twists. I felt the desperation with which Jack and Ben are running out of time to pull this off.

The on island story was fantastic yet again. From the uncertainty of where in time/space the island is, to the looming questions about where the story is going, to the danger facing Charlotte, and now Miles & Juliet, and as mentioned previously, the wonderful scene where Sawyer sees Kate in the jungle, I was fully engaged!

Maybe the best scene in the show though was the canoe chase. What a great, action-packed scene. If I remember correctly, Juliet shot her gun at the other canoe, and someone slumped over the side. I have to think that we will see this scene somewhere down the road, from another perspective. And I fear that the person being shot could be one of the oceanic 6, back on the island courtesy of ajira airlines. Is the water bottle a clue that this scene takes place in the future?

Great episode!

Yes, the Oceanic 6 are working their way back, but the history of the island and the way it is being told is much more interesting.

Think about anyone you’ve any seen once who then disappeared right after you saw them and the fact that in their time line this interaction took place years ago. I can barely remember the bus driver I chatted with this morning; if I run into him next week, next month or next year in a different context I won’t remember his face either…

From a plausability perspective, I would seem improbable for anyone to remember someone they met once and then only saw again after any span of time…

So excited to hear the podcast on this one. So…many…questions!!

ps: Sound on TimeWarner in NY was fine. Sorry some of you guys had issues.

Josh Holloway has really come into his own with this season. He finally gets to show the range of his acting ability and Sawyer’s character. I’ve read that this will be the season of Sawyer and I hope that’s the case.

The island side of the story is definitely my favorite at this point. Do they have to show the Oceanic 6 side if the story? I guess so, but the more Island side of the story they show, the better.

Even though I’m a guy I have to say the Sawyer stuff put a lump in my throat tonight. Josh Holloway is showed a lot of heart in his performance tonight.

We’ve now had an overt suggestion that maybe Miles is Pierre Chang/Marvin Candle/Mark Wickman/whoever’s son. But if Daniel’s right and the reason Miles’ nosebleeds started after Charlotte’s is that he was on the island in the past, how does that explain Juliet getting one before Sawyer?
And we have the return of Jin. Big thumbs up on that one. Not sure whether there is any context based on seasons 1 & 2 though… I am suprised that Danielle doesn’t remember him looking familiar.

I also liked Locke’s explanation to Sawyer of why future Locke doesn’t intercede with past Locke — he had to endure the suffering to get to where he is. Very “Christian,” if I can apply that term with little theological knowledge.

I really liked the misdirect with Claire’s mom… could she be Charlotte’s mom as well? (Heck, I’m gonna run with this. I think Claire is really Rose’s mom. )

Great show and I can’t wait for more.

Terrible sound here in Philly. It started with the enhanced episode at 8:00 p.m. and is continuing into the new episode. I could not understand most of the dialog in the hospital due to the terrible sound quality.

Now I get to listen to the season 3 podcasts while watching season 5.

Not sure if this is just to play up the whole, destiny/free will thing, but we will find out very soon if they manage to get back in time.

p.s. I hope they do, Oceanic Six storyline sucks, LOST belongs on that island!

After re-watching, something about that scene screams red-herring to me. It all just seems a little convenient. I’m trying to imagine how this will come about. I’m guessing that after one of the time shifts either Sawyer or Locke will suddenly appear out of nowhere to the islands natives and be thought a God ( could this be where all these “God help us all” references are going?) Now if it’s Sawyer, to me it seems like it will be somewhat of a goof. I can’t recall anyone ever saying that Sawyer was special in relationship to the Island. But then again, maybe this is the writers way of throwing him a bone.

Anyway, at this point it could be just about anyone. But it seems to be pointing to Sawyer. I’m not completely abandoning my Locke theory. I still think that the most likely “God-like” character is Locke, but hopefully we’ll learn more tonight or in the weeks to come.
