Sharing ‘The Lost Experience’

There are excellent fan sites out there devoted to ‘The Lost Experience,’ the ARG (Alternative Reality Gaming) universe, where clues are collected and analyzed in detail. Wikis are a great way for fans to collaboratively build online resources, such as The Lost Podcast Wiki (from our friends Jay and Jack) and the LostPedia. There are also sections at message boards like and And there are several blogs, official and unofficial.

Visitors to ‘The Transmission’ are a community unto themselves, of course, so we’ll post ‘open threads’ about ‘The Lost Experience’ on occasion to give you a playground in which to share your own discoveries, observations, and theories, separate from the show itself. Have at it!

What are the passwords for the board of directors?

  2. Emily says:

The documents under Joop’s corner are readable if you just move the mouse around but don’t click.

I’ve seen everything except the morse code bit, how do you do that?

anyone know the password and login for the board of directors? (there’s a woman whose pic is replaced by “?” maybe related?

  3. David JS says:

Check this out: On the Hanso page, at the Active Projects link for WWPDP, click on “World Maps”. The map shows three dots showing ongoing project locations. However, if you put your cursor over the Bermuda Triangle, you will see another location pop up. At that point bring your cursor under the larger gray box to the left of the map. Hold the your mouse button down and you will see a faint message. Looks like some sort of equation(s). There are two sets of numbers underlined (13,9,19,19,9,14,7 & 15,18,7,1,14,19). These numbers correspond to the alphabet and spell out Missing Organs! Any ideas?

  4. Chris says:

In the mental health project there is a place where you tell more about yourself. What should you put there. Try it out and tell me

  5. Chris says:

I hate these lost people they are messing with our heads so badly! Frustrating!

  6. Nort says:

Man in the picture is the man in the picture in Hanso website: Active Projects: -Mental Health Appeal section.

sorry my english is bad :S

  7. Hugh says:

    Hey all,

Whith the Mittelwerk dialog boxes, you have to enter something in the box over the Bio AND AT THE SAME TIME a username. Tried safeg in the Bio box, with Heir Apparent in the username and nothing. Will keep trying!!!!

  8. Hugh says:

Enter Persephone into the username box and safeg into the Bio box, the sit reloads but with the strange DHARMA music as well!

  9. Hugh says:

    Talking Rubbish, TRY THIS NOW!!!!!!!!
Persephone in the username and Heir Apparent in the Bio box, seems to be working! Comes up with some kind of eye…

  10. Hugh says:

Meningococcal Disease, the one mentioned in the letter, is (according to the CDC) Meningitis.

Meningitis is an infection of the fluid of a person’s spinal cord and the fluid that surrounds the brain. People sometimes refer to it as spinal meningitis. Meningitis is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Knowing whether meningitis is caused by a virus or bacterium is important because the severity of illness and the treatment differ. Viral meningitis is generally less severe and resolves without specific treatment, while bacterial meningitis can be quite severe and may result in brain damage, hearing loss, or learning disability. For bacterial meningitis, it is also important to know which type of bacteria is causing the meningitis because antibiotics can prevent some types from spreading and infecting other people. Before the 1990s, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) was the leading cause of bacterial meningitis, but new vaccines being given to all children as part of their routine immunizations have reduced the occurrence of invasive disease due to H. influenzae. Today, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Neisseria meningitidis are the leading causes of bacterial meningitis.

I’ve figured out who the silhouette that slowly appears over Joop’s image belongs to. It belongs to the unamed doctor at the top of the “Active Projects” >> “Mental Health Appeal” page of the Hanso website. His ear, shoulder and pitch of his head all match. Has anyone cracked the Vik Institute diologue box yet?

  12. Goldsteve says:

If you go to the joop coner and send a message to joop.
    send the numbers “4 8 15 16 23 42″ (with no “)
you come up with a oceanic island thing and have to press the circles like on the sunLYMONal site.
It brings you to a letter, which i have to put together at this link

  13. Karim says:

What is the morse code bit

  14. Punisher says:

try typing persephone as the screename in the newsletter start page

  15. Hugh says:

    Can Can Man,

    Password is breaking strain.
The only username i’ve found so far is Persephone.
Anyone else seen the bit about “Dr” Mittelwerk. Aparently, he is not a doctor after all.

  16. Izzy says:

A couple of questions have not yet been answered: Here’s a summary.
*Mental health. No agreed answer to “tell us more about yourself!”
*If you type in “show whole screen” there is a login box + RSS- don’t know the login or password, but none of the above work.

  17. Dave says:

Hugh et. al., just FYI. Meningococcal disease and meningitis are not one and the same. Meningococcal disease is any bacterial infection caused by Neiserria meningitides, but most notoriously causes meningitis. (People occasionally get meningococcemia or meningococcal pneumonias.) Meningitis is, as you mentioned, any infection or inflammation of the meninges in the central nervous system (brain & spinal cord).

Wonder if there’s any relationship between “the sickness” that made Danielle’s people go crazy and the new strain of meningococcus off the coast of Tanzania referenced in the letter… meningitis (and its close relative encephalitis) can cause changes in mental status, and meningococcal meningitis is certainly lethal if not treated with IV antibiotics.

  18. Hugh says:

Anyone know what to type in the hidden thext box on Joops page. It’s under the green “Joops corner” on the 1st page of that section.

  19. Dave says:

Cool tidbit from the ABC official blog (

“I thought you would like to know that we believe lostinthemachine at Lost-Forum has found the correct answer to the clue in ASCII that translated to “HAS WIN HOST PC IN NIL URGE. 8, not 1 and 6” His answer is that it is “WHO IS RUNNING THIS PLACE. 8, not 1 and 6” The “8, not 1 and 6” would have the same meaning that we interpreted before.”

I had seen a few other interpretations of this, most notably from

Personally, the former seems to make more sense, especially with the “world map” ( Note that 8 and “1 and 6” (or 16?) are two of the numbers.

  20. Dale says:

I just wasted two hours at work haha…

  21. bill says:

the morse code comes out to “saven” not “saveg” at least thats what i got
the last letter is -. which is n –. is g

  22. xeses says:

you gotta enter the password breakingstrain after you enter any screen name to unlock the ‘Heir apparent’ mode.

  23. STORMAMY says:

I WENT TO THE HANSO FOUNDATION WEBSITE, CLICKED ON THE NEWSLETTER, ENTERED THE PASSWORD IN THE “SO, LET’S GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER” BOX (PASSWORD- PERSEPHONE), IT TURNED INTO SOME WEIRD MUSIC AND THEN THE OFFICIAL HANSO FOUNDATION SITE CHANGES INTO A SECRET INTERUPTION THAT SAYS “Hello persephone, can you read this?” You have to wait until the text on the page gets more scribbled (as if someone is erasing the Hanso official typing and replacing it with their own scribbles. if it doesn’t work, keep trying- it WILL work). You type in “Yes” and then it says ok. It then says “ok, it’s me persephone. what’s the password?” and then you enter “heir apparent” (you can also enter password “breaking strain” and it gives you an entirely different message from someone called “persphone” and flashes a picture of Joop and then goes back to the normal Hanso webpage. turns out the picture is a hidden letter i believe- check with Goldsteve who posted the letter here- and it says “call the number in the tv commercial”. i then clicked on the left side of the hanso page on the “television ad” and it gave a short ad with no phone number (it turns out the phone number is 877-HANS-ORG). i called the phone number 6 times and each time i pressed “1” where it then takes you to the voicemail box. this message comes on in German and then 2 out of the 6 times i called it had a woman’s voice leaving a hidden message to the effect of “don’t trust them” and “the secret is in the numbers” and then “password is breaking strain” then the phone hangs up. On another issue, if you go to the Oceanic Air website ( it has several hidden messages. first, click on the top of the screen where it says “edit” and go to “select all” then “copy”. copy and paste the oceanic air website into a Word document. you will see a hidden message from someone named sally that reads: “If anyone should find this message, please get word I’m alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they’re getting worse…
There is also another hidden message from an unknown source that reads: “I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.”
Finally, each time you open the Oceanic Air website and copy and paste it into Word you get hidden pictures. One is a drawing of what appears to be a man in a hospital bed with a broken arm, bandages on his face as if he had major surgery, at least one injured leg (broken?) and a birthday cake in his lap with 7 or 8 candles on it (i would imagine this was Micheal celebrating Walt’s birthday, but it looks more like a white guy). Another image is of a letter mailed from Michael to Walt talking about how Michael misses Walt and he’s (michael) recovering well and is practicing his drawing. he sends walt a drawing of a boat with the letters NY on it (presumably a New York tourist ferry) and also includes a drawing of some sort of machine that looks very much like a roulette table, though most of the drawing is hidden under the envelop of the letter. At the top left corner of the drawing is “H14” in small font. don’t know what that means but i’m sure it is symbolic is some strange way. The letter is addressed to Walter Lloyd (don’t know if lloyd is the middle name or last name) and he lived at 317 Charette St., Sydney NSW 200, Australia from as far as i can tell on the letter envelope.

Another hidden images is a picture of Claire’s boarding pass. It tells us her name is Clarie Littleton and she paid $870.50 for her ticket in US dollars. It also tells us the flight departed at 255pm and i think i can make out that she was in seat 97B. She also ordered her ticket by phone or mail.

  24. STORMAMY says:

one more thing- if you go to the Oceanic Air website and do the copy and paste thing, each time you do this (after refreshing the website) you’ll get new pictures when you paste the site into a Word document. I’ve gotten 3 different pictures so far (see last post). Anyone have any idea who “Sally” is from the hidden message in the Oceanic Air website? And how on Earth did she get access to email??!! Ha!

Sign up for the Oceanic Air newsletter called “Island Insider”. It says to “click here” every week to get inside tips, etc. but gives no link to click. just click in that general area and you’ll get a pop up box with a quiz qeustion about a recent episode.

Somehow you can click on the oceanic website and view the source codes (not quite sure if that’s what they’re called- i’m not a techie) and you’ll get a morse code message. i spent over 2 hours trying to decode it and i guess i’m just no good at deciphering morse code.

    Happy hunting!

  25. Dave says:

On the ABD blog, they recently posted a link to the newly “discovered” site This seems to be a site created by ABC (multiple clues to this one, including a store that you can’t purchase from and a “podcast” — there’s only one snippet — referring to Hanso (as a “proverbial Mr Cluck” and Persephone.

I havn’t found anything especially interesting or juicy there.

  26. cRaZyiNgLiSh says:

I’m not sure if this has been picked up on, but on the homepage there’s a news article dated 12/05/06 saying don’t believe “bad twin” – a scroll bar on the right takes you to the full press release in a new window… See the Address bar…? Take out “/newspaper.gif” to get an “Index” of stuff. legalmiller_final.pdf is a letter from an angry Hugh McIntyre. Parent Directory is 2 folders, one from Paris, one from London, but London’s empty. I can’t get access to the index’s parent directory – just get a message:
You don’t have permission to access /press/extra/ on this server.
Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) Server at Port 80
What is Red Hat? and who’s Apache?!?

  27. N.R. says:

damn people, you go to far! no permission is a standard error from apache webserver. redhat is a linux operating system. no clues there

  28. cRaZyiNgLiSh says:

LoL… Sorry, but the letter from Hugh McIntyre is worth a read.

  29. Mouhiddin says:

well i have seen almost every trick in the hanso foundation website, you can use “heir apparent” in 3 places 1- Newsletter (Sign Up) where u password is “breaking strain” 2- Joob’s Corner try to send Joob a letter which is “heir apparent” 3- Executive Bios go to Dr. Thomas Mittelwerk’s profile and put “heir apparent” in the little entry screen in the middle. And finally if you go to Alvar Hanso’s profile, u will see that the date under his picture is underlined press it and enjoy. But one thing i didn’t discover yet is when u go to “Board of Directors” there are a login entry and a password entry but no entry is working TRY IT!!! After all this i don’t understand what is the point of all this? is it just a game? or it really give u some clues about LOST?

  30. stormamy says:

the Poem “Breaking Strain” by Rudyard Kipling

    The careful text books measure
    (Let all who build beware!)
The load, the shock, the pressure
    Material can bear.
    So, when the buckled girder
    Lets down the grinding span,
The blame of loss, or murder,
    Is laid upon the man.
Not on the Stuff — the Man!

    But in our daily dealing
With stone and steel, we find
The Gods have no such feeling
    Of justice toward mankind.
To no set gauge they make us, —
For no laid course prepare —
    And presently o’ertake us
    With loads we cannot bear.
    Too merciless to bear.

    The prudent text-books give it
In tables at the end —
The stress that shears a rivet
    Or makes a tie-bar bend —
    What traffic wrecks macadam —
    What concrete should endure —
But we, poor Sons of Adam,
    Have no such literature,
To warn us or make sure!

We hold all Earth to plunder —
All Time and Space as well —
    Too wonder-stale to wonder
    At each new miracle;

    Till, in mid-illusion
    Of Godhead ‘neath our hand,
    Falls multiple confusion
On all we did or planned.
    The mighty works we planned.

    We only of Creation
    (Oh, luckier bridge and rail!)
    Abide the twin-damnation —
To fail and know we fail.
Yet we — by which sole token
We know we once were Gods —
    Take shame in being broken
    However great the odds —
    The Burden or the Odds.

    Oh, veiled and secret Power
Whose paths we seek in vain,
Be with us in our hour
    Of overthrow and pain;
That we — by which sure token
We know thy ways are true —
    In spite of being broken,
    Because of being broken,
    May rise and build anew.
    Stand up and build anew!

  31. Dave says:

Letty — the equations on the board are not addition, they’re multiplication. The “times tables” for nine are the first three lines. Then “? x 5 = 25” and “? x 5 x 8 = 12?.” I don’t see “the numbers” at all except for 18.

  32. Dave says:

There is now a login box on the Hugh McIntyre page. Anyone who figures out the code… I am all ears.

  33. Dave says:

And like that, the login box is gone.

  34. ed says:

You need to find the link to the compass.
    Go to the Electromagnetics page.
See the Strange date under the photo? “October 26, 9291”
See the X and Y coordinates and how they change as you move your mouse pointer?
Set them to 269 and 291 by slowly moving your mouse to just the right pixel.
This is a link to a new web page.
When you get to the compass you need to find another small hot spot.
Then you can find the tiny code (DI9FF—– I’ll let you find the rest of the code).
Then click to enter a server directory page and go through all the folders and links.
Read about the Jeeps… see the movie clip about the Jeep “CJ7 Hatch” (another code?) See another clip with some child’s blocks spelling out “DJDA—-” (fill in the rest yourself.. is this another clue?)
You should eventually find a large vintage Jeep advertisement with yet another clue written on it “The Mouth —–” (again, I’ll let you find out what it is yourselves).

    -Permissum Vesti Complector Rector Vos

  35. Andrew says:

Ed: cant seem to make 269 and 291 coordinates work. Any suggestions?

  36. dan says:

    its 629 not 296

  37. dan says:

    i mean its 629 not 269

  38. Surefire says:

The code with “The Mouth —–” (—– represents the remainder of the code which I don’t feel as though I should simply give away) appears in a couple of the files you can reach from the site When you figure out the code, try entering it under Hugh McIntyre’s login.

  39. dan says:

At hugh mcintires bio for the login type the mouth piece

  40. Caboose says:

Just found Bad Twin by Gary Troup for sale on !!!! It’s real, I just downloaded it…damn ABC marketing. Book is actually really good so far. “”From Bad Twin is the highly-anticipated new novel by acclaimed mystery writer Gary Troup. Bad Twin was delivered to the publisher just days before Troup boarded Oceanic Flight 815, which was lost in flight from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles in September 2004. He remains missing and is presumed dead.””

  41. Caboose says:

Check out the hyperlinks “controversy” and “The Valenzetti Equation” for 2 strange videos.

  42. Dman says:

Try this link. Many documents about the Hanso Foundation and Chrysler.

  43. Dman says:

Anyone get the Login for the field that exists on the bottom right of the main page for the Hanso Foundation?

  44. letty says:
go here, peter thompson also has a my space…. erm this is getting long!
    also the answers are…
    a = m

  45. Avi Alee says:

maybe the thing that says “who is running this place 8 not 1 and 6” is refering to who is running station 8 on the island O.o

  46. 25Cat says:

When I clicked on the Newsletter from the Hanso site, the clock flashed OBEY, click it and you will see something familiar.

  47. Karim says:

  48. Karim says:

    I think I see a D too…V, S, U, D, M, and maybe R
    ….any idea…MURDERER?

  49. Kirlian says:

The flashing series of letters say… “Survivor Guilt”.

  50. Avi Alee says:

maybe the thing that says “who is running this place 8 not 1 and 6″ is refering to who is running station 8 on the island O.o anyone have any ideas?
