As a member of a couple that does a Podcast for Runners, I understand the time commitment that it takes to do a Podcast. But with that said, you two did a fantastic job on the LOST show. I just want to express my gratitude for all of your hard work and generosity. I have three kids too and somedays I’m so busy I can barely breath. I don’t know how you do all that you do. Oh, geez!

Like lots of folks have already said, yours was the first podcast I ever listened to. You set the standard for what I expected of other ‘casts, and I’ve been mostly disappointed.

I idly wondered how much work must go into your shows, and I guess the answer is, “too much to have a real life, too.” Family has to come first. (Hey – you didn’t get a case of the guilts from Charlie, did you?)

Please consider random acts of podcasts when you have the urge. You have a lot of folks who’ll be listening and hoping.

I am seriously hoping there’s not some “other” reason as to the demise of this superb podcast??

Either way, would it be wrong for me to suggest a petition gets underway to bring back the transmission??

I realise you, Ryan and Jen, are just two normal people with lives and jobs and as little free time as the rest of us but come on, finish the series with us?

Or just do a fortnightly podcast? Half its length, don’t bother with the recaps section… there MUST be an answer???

I never listen to podcasts and never, naver join fan groups, and never send feedback. But I accidentally happened upon your podcast and was instantly addicted. You did a phenomenal job in every way. It was better than professional radio. It was thoroughly entertaining well organized and I think we all began to think of you as friends. You will never know how much you will be missed.

If money was a factor and there is some way of sending you some offline, I am sure your audience/friends would want to rally and send a little each to compensate you for the cost of doing the podcast. (NOT a podcast for which there would be a charge, but rather voluntary contributions.)

I hope something brings you back.

I have since tried a couple of others but they are no substitute–too much chatting by the hosts about themselves, dumb jokes, not so much about LOST itself. But I also realize how much time and preparation go into producing a GOOD podcast, and can understand why you’re unable to do it anymore.

Hey guys, I’m sorry to hear you got so involved that you had to cut yourselves off completely. That’s what it sounds like, anyway. Burnout is one of the hardest things to avoid when you get involved in a project that you enjoy so much, but takes a lot of time.

You two got me hooked on podcasts. Yours was the first podcast I listened to, and now I feel like an expert podcast listener. I enjoyed your shows more than any others, but I think Jay and Jack might be picking up where you two left off.

What an outstanding show the Transmission was. What a loss. I’m not a huge fan of Lost but rather a huge fan of your podcast. What the two of you accomplished, bringing together people from all over the world (to talk about a TV show for Pete’s sake!) to think about philosophy, religion, the future, good and evil…. “Lost” will not be the same without the Transmission. Your humor and thoughtful examination of each show, your respect for all your listeners no matter how far out their comments, was truly remarkable and refreshing. I’m not sure why you’re bowing out…I suspect it has something to do with your having a *real* life. If that’s the case, then kudos to you for knowing what’s really important and where to place your priorities. Mahalo for the shows you created for your cyberpod friends. We will all be LOST without the Transmission. You will be missed….
p.s. Just to give you an idea of the demographics you’ve reached, I’m a 60 year old retired woman who really doesn’t like tv at all.

Bad bad news! We are also parents of a small baby but used to curl up on a Thurs evening after we’d downloaded your podcast and our own Rian (pron. Ryan) was in bed and just listen….

We’d pay too just to keep your podcast coming!!! Is that something you’d consider?!?!?! Please….

The other Lost-casts are just a little too ‘up-their-own-arses’ and take themselves a little too seriously – you guys were genuinely fun and your love of the show and of people’s thoughts and ideas made the Podcast amazing!

As a parent of two young kids I was always amazed at how you found the time and energy to produce an hour+ podcast each week (not to mention responding to hundreds of email messages, dealing with termites, etc.) I hope you enjoy next week’s episode and get to bed early for a change.

Gutted doesn’t cover it! I am so sad that the Transmission has ended. It was my introduction to podcasting and the most anticipated podcast in my iTunes. Guys, whatever reasons you had for stopping I hope that you are okay and having fun still. I shall miss the Transmission (the other podcasts simply don’t meet your standard… but shhh! don’t tell them).

For me, your podcast had become a part of the whole Lost phenomenon and it is a sad loss. If you ever decide to return then I’ll be there listening and if you ever needs help in getting the Transmission going again you can count on me!

My brother, who had an ipod for about a year, didn’t even use it until I told him about your podcast. I didn’t think he knew HOW to….he started listening about 4 weeks ago and is really bummed out about you leaving….My roommate and I are devastated by your calling it quits but it’s also a little refreshing knowing that you’ve grown closer to each other – and are willing to try new stuff – it’s also refreshing that i can listen to some of my other podcasts now…we’ll miss you.

I cannot believe the news and am really sad to hear it has come to an end. The slick production and relaxed style of the transmission has been astounding and is why so many of us listen to your show.

Perhaps all of us could donate a pound a show; you both give up your day jobs and move to a 3 shows-a-week schedule!!! It was just a thought?

Major downer. This is the only podcast I listen to religiously and since the news I have checked out other LOST podcasts. They all have merit but your podcast was major-league while the others feel like they are struggling in the minors. I know with three kids and work and such this must be tough to maintain. You guys are gonna be missed so very much. I am so Caught up in ABC’S Lost and your podcast has been the most wonderful compliment to the best thing that has ever been on Network TV….or Syndicated for that matter!
I did try the other podcast and The Transmission was the one that really worked for me!
I had just this pass weekend bought a cool headset/microphone so I could start sending audio files and join in the chatter.

Wow I feel like we will be missing a big part of the show. The recaps always helped me see things clearer. The forward cabin always got me thinking of new possibilities and even the great quality of callers comments and speculations actually sent me down many paths reading books watching movies etc.ABC should actually pay you to keep the fire going. The problem is every other Lost podcast I listen to from now on will be compared to The Transmission, which was just the perfect blend of everything. They just can’t compare and aren’t the same. There really isn’t a good replacement, just decent (at best) substitutes. As much as I try to respect the decisions of Ryan and Jenn, I can’t help but feel let down and truly sad. It was weekly ritual for me to listen and it’s like this great couple is dead to me or something (hence the “see you in another life”). All in all, it’s been a couple days and I still feel as depressed this happened. Wish there was something we, as listeners, could do. Maybe financial support for this? Will miss you dearly.

Dear Ryan and Jen,

I, too, am deeply saddened by the end of The Transmission. As many people stated above, if it’s true that it’s mostly because of time constraints that you can’t continue the show the way it’s been done, perhaps someday when things calm down a little, or you’re just really bored, you’ll put out a special edition once in a while of The Transmission. I’m sure all of us would listen. In the last 24 hours I have been brainstorming ideas for how you can maybe make special episodes that only come out once in a while.

Here are some ideas. Feel free, anyone, to add to them:

1. I know you normally put many hours worth of planning into each show, but I’d enjoy an improvised show if you ever have the itch to come back. You know, just wing it. Hell, I’d listen.

2. A commentary show: a podcast that can be played simultaneously with an episode of LOST, with all of your insight and comments. It would be cool to hear your insights on a location while we’re looking at it on the screen.

3. Specials – when something really wild and crazy happens on LOST, just pop out of nowhere and throw out a podcast about it!

I know it’s a long shot, but in a few weeks or months from now, I hope you consider some of these ideas. You know we’ll still love you if you never do another podcast again, but maybe an alternative version may suit your family’s needs, as well as fulfill your love for talking about LOST.

I always admired how you never made fun of people’s theories (no matter how far fetched they may have seemed) and encouraged people to share their thoughts. It felt good to know we could do that without being made fun of or mocked. You genuinely welcomed all ideas, and I loved that. Also, thanks for not being full of yourselves! There is a great temptation in Podcasting to just yammer on and on and on and go off on a million tangents that nobody thinks are cute or funny, and you guys never did that. That was cool – you were straight to the point and humble, and that is very admirable.

Your podcast was the VERY FIRST podcast I ever listened to starting back in October. I always looked forward to going to work on Thursdays because it was when I would get to hear two friendly voices talking about a show I like very much.

I have to say that out of all the Lost podcasts out there, your’s was the most down-to-earth and professional. Great job!

I know how much time podcasts can take to create, so I completely understand your decision. Why not do a show when the season is over so we can at least hear your thoughts on how it turned out? There’s no rule that says you have to do a weekly podcast either. Remember, when it comes to hobbies, you can create yor own rules. I think we would rather hear you two once in awhile than not at all.

Believe it or not I actually started listening to your podcasts before I started waiting ‘Lost’. You two got me started on ‘Lost’ and made it so much more interesting to watch. Are you sure you’re not quitting because ABC failed to raise your salary like they did for the regular cast members? I think $80K per episode for you guys sound reasonable. Every thursday night, I used to listen to it before bed, and since I fall asleep in three seconds–I was able to delay one show to anywhere from four to six days. I used to even rave about it to my friends. They told me I was podcast-addicted.

Though I haven’t listened to your final podcast yet (I haven’t had the chance to put it onto my iPod), I’m beginning to think that this is something I should probably listen to at home as opposed to at work, where I usually listen to podcasts. Your podcast has been so enjoyable to listen to and I’ve referenced you guys so many times in my LiveJournal that I don’t know what I’m going to do now!

Like so many others, I won’t be cutting off my subscription on iTunes, just in case you decide to make a comeback. Just don’t make it one like DriveShaft and start advertising diapers!

I am sad. I looked forward to listening to The Transmission after every Lost episode. I know there are other Lost podcasts, but there was something “special” about yours. Maybe it’s just because you two seem like such great people–listening to The Transmission was kind of like getting together with friends over a cup of coffee on Thursday morning to talk about the previous night’s episode. Well, I wish I had said this before, but thank you so much for The Transmission. I know it must have taken a huge amount of time to put the episodes together, and I hope you know how much it was appreciated. Dear Ryan & Jen,

First and foremost-THANK YOU for a great run! Albeit the news was unexpected, I totally respect your decision–Marriage and Family come first.

My only regret was never calling in with my comments, your observations and enthusiasm for LOST was genuine and contagious. In fact, the reason I continue to watch the series is due largely in part to THE TRANSMISSION. Your program was eagerly awaited by me every Thursday. I played it
on my iPod during a run or have it blasting it out of my office from the sound dock. It was a great time.

From now on when I watch LOST, I’ll always say to myself, “I wonder what Ryan & Jen are thinking about this episode?”

Thank for all the sweat you both put into this, I can only imagine how you manage podcasting THE TRANSMISSION this long, plus raising kids and dealing with real life. From a fan’s perspective it was a blast!

I can only hope to see you both on a flashback sequence of a future LOST episode??? ABC owes you one for enriching our viewing experience.

I am genuinely saddened by the end of your run. I have never called in to the show and this is my first post to your board. I have connected to your show as much or even more than LOST the show. I will miss not listening to your well-produced podcast.

I’m still hoping that you just need to change your mind about this whole stopping thing. For now I’m lost in a different way. How do I disconnect from your show and pick up another. How can any other show live up to the ordered, smooth-going nature of your show.

Thank you so much for bringing me into the world of podcasts and for your unique perspectives on the show. I will truly miss you guys very much.

I was listening to your comments on the Fire+Water edition of The Transmission, and got very anxious when you had mentioned that you were considering shortening the length of the show. Now that you have instead decided to end The Transmission, my anxiety levels are at an all time high.

Seriously, though, like other bloggers have mentioned, your show was terrific. Your aloha spirit really transmitted well, and has encouraged me to research a trip to Hawaii. If and when that comes to fruition, you guys (and Lost) will be in on my mind for much of the trip.

Hopefully you will send audio file feedback to other Lost podcasts so we can continue to get snippets of your Lost input.

Man I cannot believe this is coming to an end. Who would of thought how BIG this would get. I wish you would explain further the reason for shutting down. To me it seemed that it was just too time consuming for a “hobby” especially for being parents. I bet that your show would of grown even faster had things been different continued.

One thing about Podcasting, it seems that growth isn’t always better. Smaller shows are more intimate to the listener and far more pleasant for the Podder. Ryan you always gave so much credit to Jen, but I’d like to thank you for putting out such an incredibly professional show. Your quality is “No Ka Oi” in the podcast community!! Now go relax and spend time with your family!

I’m Lost without “The Transmission”

I can’t tell you how disappointed I am to hear of the demise of “The Transmission”. I just put in a vote at podcastalley raving about the show and I was blindsided by your announcement.

Obviously you have made your decision so let me share a thought or two. I’m not sure if you two know how good The Transmission is. All of your efforts in preparation and production quality really come across in what I believe to be one of the best overall podcasts available.

I don’t participate in the forums so I will leave you with this. Thanks! Thanks for the work and effort. I really enjoyed The Transmission. Your passion for the show and attention to detail enhanced my viewing enjoyment immensely. Your personalities and delivery were always very friendly to the point where I feel like I know you both.

Our whole family (2 adults, 4 kids) listens to and loves your podcast. You’ve done a wonderful job with it. Please consider somehow continuing in some capacity, or at least choose someone else to “carry the torch” and continue the high standard you’ve set.

Anyway, we certainly understand your needing to get out from under the “obligation” of doing the podcast. It would sure be great if you could make a living doing the podcast, but certainly the rest of life is important, too.

OK… here I was updating my iTunes Podcast subscriptions and I see an early Transmission podcasts called “Aloha.” What’s up with that? Wow! You guys are suddenly leaving before the season ends? Gees… The Transmission was the first and only LOST podcast I regularly listened to, and only recently added the ABC podcast to my lineup.

I have to tell you I enjoyed every podcast of THE TRANSMISSION because you folks caught a lot of stuff in each episode that I did not catch the first time or was not aware of. Plus all the people who sent clips in also helped. Now what am I gonna do? I guess peruse the regular message boards or find another LOSTcast…

That all said, the biggest draw of THE TRANSMISSION for me is the fact that it was locally produced and of course an offshoot of HawaiiUP which I hope you folks will continue even if on a periodical basis. I am sure all the LOST fans who listen are shocked at this, but then I am sure you both have a good reason for discontinuing.

The good thing is that I have every episode of THE TRANSMISSION saved so that when the SEASON 2 DVDs come out, I can review them as I watch episodes 1 – 12 all over again at some future date. So in that respect THE TRANSMISSION will still be relevant and come in handy for review purposes.

Hey guys. I just learned the morbid news. I loved your show so much and I am devestated that it is over. I would watch the newest episode of “Lost” and just think of all the great stuff you would talk about in the next transmission and the next day I would listen to it as soon as I could. The show tought me many of the therois and inside tid-bits hidden throughout the episode.
